THE ANSWER TO JESUS’ PRAYER
Wednesday – December 18, 2019, Kislev 20, 5780
Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to another week of this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. Again, before we start let’s meditate on and be encouraged by the following Scripture.
1 Peter 2:9 (AMP)
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
We are a chosen people and are unlike any before us, currently existing, or to come! We are priests and kings before our God and in the family of God. We are a special people, God is calling us special, and has given for us to do wonderful deeds and shine His marvelous light in all places. The featured picture today is of a woodpecker on the suet at our birdfeeders. Hopefully we won’t drive you crazy with our bird feeder. Now, let’s turn to our primary Bible text and read it aloud.
John 14:15-21 (KJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
As we look at the text verses fifteen and sixteen, I want to point out that Jesus is not talking about the coming of the Holy Spirit into the earth available to all peoples but manifesting in individual lives. He repeats it later in verse twenty-one. So, if we love (agape) Jesus, which is defined as obeying or doing His commandments He will speak to the Father and the Father will release the Comforter to manifest in our lives. If you are wondering why there seems to be more torment than comfort in your life, go back and read the text and what I have written. Obedience triggers Jesus to intercede on our behalf with the Father to release the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. Disobedience means an absence of the Holy Spirits work (manifestation) in our lives. Everything will be hard and just enough and sometimes not quite enough. That is the life of disobedience. There is a degree of mercy extended to us all (intercession of Jesus and others in the earth) and sometimes to a great extent for a season but it will be just enough like the Israelites in the wilderness for forty years. Astonishing victory with abundance is one confession, one repentance away followed by diligence and obedience.
We see in our text that Jesus goes on to tell His disciples (and us that have declared Him as Lord and Savior) that this Comforter is also the Spirit of Truth. He tells them that they know the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, for He has been with them but will soon be in them. Praise the Lord dear brother and sister because of Calvary and the Resurrection (Jesus dealing with the sin problem) when we receive by faith Jesus as Lord and Savior the Holy Spirit quickens or makes alive our spirit man and dwells within us. Jesus took our sin and gave us His righteousness being made sin in our stead. At salvation our spirit man is made alive to God, is given eternal life, life with and in God. Our soul man which is our mind (not our brain a physical organ), will, and emotions are untouched with the exception of the change required to accept salvation. It is our responsibility, a command from our Lord, to renew our minds so that it is just like His. It is possible, Adam thought just like God until he believed a false voice, and Jesus thought just like God the Father and never sinned becoming the solution for the sin of Adam, for our sin. Don’t give me that whinny voice about that being Jesus.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
You suppose Jesus was confused when He uttered the preceding verse or can we do the things He did and even greater? Let me ask us all just as Joshua asked the Israelites, how long will we be slack (Joshua 18:3)?

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
