Greetings and welcome back to our study of the Bible character of Melchizedek. I will be spending quite a bit of time on this character because this is very rich Scripture. And we have not even gotten to the Book of Hebrews. The prior teaching I believe have established that Melchizedek was a human historical person who was a type and shadow of the True King, Priest, Righteous One, and Prince of Peace. Let’s go to our primary Bible text.
Genesis 14:16-18 (KJV)
16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale.
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
I will again focus on verse eighteen and the Communion Table. Eighteen is the number of bondage in Biblical Numerology. Isn’t this a wonderful Book? The Blood of Jesus who was the Bread of Life is the one who freed us from the bondages of Satan. It’s all in that one verse! Now let’s look at Jesus sharing Communion with His disciples on the same day as His crucifixion.
Luke 22:14-20 (KJV)
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
It is the 14th of Nisan sometime before 6 p.m. and they are partaking of what is commonly referred to as the “Last Supper”. In less than 24 hours He will be in the tomb. They are there for the “traditional” Passover observance and meal. It seems that the disciples/Apostles were not yet aware that He was indeed The Passover Lamb. Jesus is telling His twelve Apostles which included Judas that the Passover was prophetic of a coming Passover and that Passover had arrived. He is our Passover. They are about to partake of the cup which is symbolic of His Blood. He tells them He will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God has come. When is the kingdom of God come? With His resurrection when sinful flesh has been dealt with and the Holy Spirit can inhabit and we become one spirit with Him.
In verse nineteen He breaks the break, symbolic of His body being broken. His body is broken so that ours need not be. Now let’s focus on verse twenty of Luke 22. By the way the number 22 in Scripture is the number of light or revelation. Twenty is the number of Redemption. Those who will are redeemed from darkness to light. Notice exactly what Jesus says.
Luke 22:20 (KJV)
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Jesus said that His Blood shed for us was the New Testament. His Blood is eternal; it does not have to be shed year to year as before. We will talk more about this in coming teachings. That Blood, His Blood, ratified and reestablished God’s original intent for mankind. However, there is one caveat, The Law of Sin and Death has been removed. The plan of God is moving forward in mercy and compassion towards mankind before the final judgment to remove all death, Hell, and evil spirits.
TAKE HOME:
- His body was broken so that ours could be whole.
- The Blood of Jesus shed for mankind is the New Testament (authentication).
- The final Passover is restoring all things.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
