CIRCUMCISION OF THE BODY OF SIN

Greetings dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome to this ongoing study of “Father Abraham”. We will be reviewing Abraham’s life for it is encouraging for us all to see how God can and does flow in and through imperfect people to accomplish His will. Abrahams life was pivotal to the redemption account and the restitution of all things. I started this series of teachings showing the glorious end result then we went to the beginning to see the sausage be made. Now, let’s continue examining Abram then Abraham’s journey with the Lord to the fulfillment of the most important promise ever, the birth of a promised child to the birth of the Promised Child. We will pick up once again in Genesis chapter seventeen.
Genesis 17:1-6 (KJV)
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
Ishmael was born by Hagar Sarai’s maid when Abram was 86 years old and now 13 years have passed. Thirteen is the Bible number for rebellion and depravity. Abram (exalted father) is renamed by God to Abraham (father of multitudes or nations). Faith comes by hearing the Word of God over and over. The new name was the word of God and Abraham heard it over and over. Faith is released by action; he acted upon the Word of God. Faith is powered or supported by love of God, which is doing the Word, doing it selflessly, and in Covenant with God. Abraham was moving in this framework. Did you notice in verse six that God told Abraham that kings would come out of him? Of course, there were many kings that came through the physical lineage of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, then Judah. But many more spiritual kings have come by the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Christ Jesus.
Revelation 1:6 (KJV)
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Now let’s move to the circumcision of Abraham which was a token (verse eleven below) shedding of blood foretelling the eternal blood to come through Christ Jesus. To this point we have the surrogate shedding of blood for God in Genesis chapter fifteen. By the way the Bible number fifteen is rest or provision. Now, we have a token shedding of blood foreshadowing the shed blood of Christ.
Genesis 17:10-14 (KJV)
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
This ritual of circumcision was symbolic of the putting off of sinful flesh. When sinful flesh is not put off in salvation that person is outside of Covenant and choosing Hell instead of the Kingdom of God. Why circumcise at eight days of age? Way back 4000 years ago long before man knew anything out clotting factors in the blood God knew all about it. In a newborn the clotting factors in the blood are not fully functional until the 8th day.
Colossians 2:10-11 (KJV)
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Jesus took our sin and the punishment in our place making us righteous (in a condition acceptable to the Father) and allowing the Holy Spirit to abide and become one spirit with us.
1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
TAKE HOME:
- The harvest of Abram and Sarai’s disobedience is with us today.
- You and I are one of the kings that came from Abraham.
- We have been spiritually circumcised upon entering the Kingdom of God and stand before the Father and He sees us as pure as Christ Jesus.
