We have come to the start of another work week and our ongoing assignment from the Throne of God. We may not be consciously aware of every aspect of our assignment, but as we listen with a readiness of mind to do the voice of our Master it will be clear and bring glory to God. Now, let each of us make the conscious decision to receive the Word of God making His Word our word.
Colossians 2:18-19 (KJV)
18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
The Apostle Paul is telling them not to follow these charismatic leaders who are demanding certain degrading, ungodly behavior. Angels are real enough and the Bible has several examples of angels playing a role in God’s plan concerning men however angels are never to be worshipped. They are not Gods, and they are lower in rank then we are, and they are not even of the same species.
Genesis 1:26 (KJV)
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion … over all the earth, …
You and I brother and sister were made in the image and likeness of God. There is no other creature that can make that claim. Angels are a created spiritual being but Adam had a physical body made by God from the earth who then breathed His very own being into Adam making him of like kind with Himself.
Genesis 2:7 (KJV)
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
This phrase “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life” is not talking about physical air, the very spirit of Adam came from Elohim, the Godhead. We have been imparted the attributes of Jehovah, the Word, and the Holy Spirit.
The woman later called Eve was taken out of Adam, spirit, soul, and body.
Genesis 2:21-23 (KJV)
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Eve was as much a living soul as Adam, also of the earth and the Creator. With the advent of Eve, the female Adam, reproduction of mankind became possible and the mission given of God became doable. Adams physical body, and later Eve’s, were made from the elements of the earth giving them the capacity to live in the earth. Receiving their living soul (spirit and soul) of God gave them capacity to live in Heaven as well and citizenship in Heaven. The spiritual is always superior to the physical so the governing citizenship was of Heaven. Adam like those of us who are born again are on assignment in the earth. Adam and Eves physical bodies were perfect and immortal, uncorrupted. Their minds were 100% the Word of God for they were taught of God. Their spirit was alive and pure just like God. When Adam sinned the spirit died instantly but as you meditate those Scriptures (Genesis chapter three) you will notice that they allowed, chose to allow a corruption of their minds. The corruption of the spirit man (superior to the physical) corrupted the physical body leading to physical death.
After sin the spirit man was corrupted by death and the mind was corrupted by the ideas of the devil. Adam lived to be 937 years of age but men chose to think and speak like the devil until people were living into their 40’s in the middle ages. The more a person will renew their mind to the Word of God the better their health in all spheres. Of course this renewing has to go hand in hand with Godly exercise of faith, love, and hope. When a man and a woman reproduce, we are creative spirit and body. The physical egg from the woman comes together with the sperm from the man and a physical body will be created. However that is not the whole person. The spiritual genetic makeup if you will of that man and woman also merge to become a new spirit being (eternal) that never existed before. Now we have the whole person. This is how sin passed upon every man by the sin of Adam and Eve.
Romans 5:12 (KJV)
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Those of us who are born again, our spirit man has been born from death to life we are made citizens of Heaven and function in the Kingdom of God which is present in Heaven and in earth. There is a second spiritual kingdom in the earth and hell of which Satan is god, and that is the kingdom of darkness. We are then ambassadors from Heaven. Ambassadors are the highest ranking officials in a foreign land of the sending government. We are in the God class, angels are in a lesser class, the angel class. Fallen angels are even lower.
In Colossians 2:19 (see above) the Apostle Paul goes on to tell that these abusive and demonic leaders are not recognizing the Head (Jesus) at all. And they are not recognizing the body is held together and nourished by the Head who is Christ Jesus. They are not recognizing that the body of Christ increases only by an increase of God. He is talking about our knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ. As we increase in knowledge of God and obedience to that knowledge then the Kingdom of God, the body of Christ is increased. Then the Apostle Paul goes on to ask a question.
Colossians 2:20-22 (KJV)
20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Jesus took care of the body of sin at Calvary, His Blood, His innocence, His testimony, and the justice (judgment) of God took sin out of the way so in our repentance we have entry into the Most Holy Place through the veil, the flesh of Jesus. The flesh of Jesus was made sin resulting in His spiritual death, just like Adam in the Garden. Now we are not subject to the law of sin and death, so long as we remain in Christ Jesus. That does not mean we can sin with abandon testing our God but it does mean there is abundance of mercy to give us space for repentance.
There are rules and regulations that people in the Church may impose that are not found in the Bible or became obsolete after Calvary. Remember Jesus told us we are in the world but we are not of the world. The most important role we play in the world is to be light. The world is the people, the structures, and systems that sit on the planet earth. So the bottom line is that there is a distinct difference between the earth and the world. We take our lead from the Bible, the Kingdom of God and not the world, the kingdoms of this world. The world gets upset when we are not like them. When we are not like them our light, our lives, our words which are His are illuminating ungodly thoughts, speech, and behavior. They really hate that.
