ANOTHER BEARS WITNESS OF ME
Monday – December 10, 2018, Tevet 2, 5779

Greetings precious ones and welcome back to this powerful and faith building Bible Study from the Book of John. God is so good to give us His Word so that we don’t need to flail about in the darkness. The featured picture today is a wonderful fall scene again along the Belgrade Stream, this was taken in early to mid-October, it does not look that way today but it is nice to remember. The beautiful leaves are gone, the ice and snow if not here are on the way. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text reading it aloud to get it in our eyes, our mouth, and our ears.
John 5:31-37 (KJV)
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
Remember that Jesus is answering the Jews but more broadly He is speaking to us as well. There are powerful lessons to be learned from all Scripture whether it is addressed directly to us or not. It is essential that all Scripture be seen in context and in the light of the whole counsel of God. The man with an infirmity for thirty-eight years by the Pool of Bethesda was healed on the Sabbath, the man had picked up his bed and was carrying it on the Sabbath, and on top of that Jesus had the audacity to tell the Jews that God was His Father. The Jews are in a rage and are determined to kill Him. Jesus then started a teaching several verses ago and we are now at verse thirty-one. You may find it well worthwhile to go back and review those verses starting with the seventeenth verse. As we look at this thirty-first verse, we might say to ourselves; “what better witness than that of Jesus”. Let’s take a look at this verse in a different translation of the Bible and see if we can gain some clarity.
John 5:31 (AMP)
31 If I alone testify in My behalf, My testimony is not valid and cannot be worth anything.
It is far better for other people to brag on us, especially God than we ourselves. Additionally, we are reminded that the Scripture admonishes us to establish everything by two or three witnesses.
Deuteronomy 19:15 (KJV)
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
2 Corinthians 13:1 (KJV)
1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.
Acts 17:10-11 (KJV)
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Not searching the Scriptures and studying to show ourselves approved before God is how we get into the ditch, one side or the other or into overt sin. You might ask in the Acts reference above who the two witnesses are. They are Paul and the Scripture. We must identify and reject all corruption of the Scripture. Now, let me ask a question. What is the more powerful testimony, when we give it of ourselves or when another gives it concerning us? Jesus never bragged on Himself. The work of the Holy Spirit (Anointing), of the Father, through Him was a powerful witness carried by the mouth of the multitudes touched by the igniting of faith with His Anointing.
Proverbs 18:16 (KJV)
16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
