Greetings to all who have come to this teaching from the Bible Book of James. I will be continuing in the fifth chapter. As I have mentioned many times this is an instructional, corrective and a to the point Book. Of course, it is only corrective when one comes with ears to hear, wants to understand so as to do. So, let’s go to our primary Bible text for today.
James 5:13-15 (NIV)
13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
I thought I was done with the thirteenth verse, but the Lord has reminded me of a couple of things to add. I spent quite a bit of time showing the undeniable link between the presence of the curse in ones life and sin. The Bible talks about this from start to finish but the Church pretty much ignores it. Why ignore, avoid, such vital knowledge is a mystery to me. Hopefully you remember that the word “afflicted” means hardship which is a word of Hell not the Kingdom of God. That does not mean that hardship does not come to and even invade Gods’ people, but it is never the will of God. Jesus more or less summarized Deuteronomy chapter twenty-eight with the following verse.
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The curse entered the earth by sin in the Garden of Eden. Obedience to Gods’ Word brings and maintains the blessing which is life abundant and disobedience brings and maintains the curse which is stealing, killing, and destroying in our lives. As I thought I could move forward into verse fourteen of our primary text the Lord reminded me of two Scriptures to add before moving forward.
John 5:14-16 (KJV)
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
Perhaps you have recognized this as part of the account of the man by the pool of Bethesda who was crippled thirty-eight years. Here, Jesus made a clear connection between this mans problem and sin. Let’s look once again at the clear choice presented in the Book of Deuteronomy.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
If you read down through the 14th verse not one mention of the curse or affliction! On the other hand.
Deuteronomy 28:15 (KJV)
15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
If the curse is present, we must pray, we must study, we must find the open door and close it tight. It is always sin but not always a sin of which we have knowledge, it may be a sin of ignorance, or laziness (failure to study), rejection of knowledge because that’s not what we believe over here. Finally.
Proverbs 26:2 (KJV)
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
If the curse is present, there is a cause. God never puts the curse on us which would be things like financial lack, sickness of any kind, or brokenness in any other arena of life. The devils cannot put the curse upon us; we must let them in. Common doors are outright sin with knowledge, ignorance, unbelief (huge), and believing lies (traditions of men, doctrines of demons, and sacred cows).
TAKE HOME:
- Hardship or affliction is a word of Hell not the Kingdom of God.
- Thou art made whole, go and sin no more.
- The curse causeless does not alight.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow, next month. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
