IS YOUR WISDOM FROM ABOVE OR BELOW

Greetings dear saints of God and welcome to our Study of the Bible Book of James. As I have mentioned many times, I see this as a straightforward (for the most part) Bible Book with Wisdom for today. Much of the Book as to do with the Words of our mouth which springs from the thoughts of our minds as does everything else in our lives, in this creation. There is no way to exaggerate the importance of our thoughts and the words that spring from those thoughts, those beliefs. Now let’s go ahead and jump into our Bible text for today. Remember, I teach the Bible from the Bible.
James 3:13-18 (KJV)
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
James goes on by the unction of the Holy Spirit to declare that the person filled with bitterness, envy, strife, boasting, who rejects the Truth as not getting their Wisdom from God. He tells us that it is entirely of the earth, is sensual (based on feelings) and devilish. This is not something I want describing or defining my life, what about you? This is a shortcut to the ditches of life and not the abundant living of God here and there. The Holy Spirit isn’t through. He tells us flat out that where there is envying and strife there is confusion and every evil work (doing). Do you know persons and household like this? Hopefully, it is not you or your household. All things in the earth realm are subject to change, all things being possible with God.
Now the author circles back to the wise man who is intelligent and lives his life in true humility and Godly wisdom. Verse seventeen is quite the mouthful.
James 3:17 (KJV)
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Wow! Don’t you want that to describe you? What is pure wisdom from above. Well God’s wisdom does not contain any sacred cows, traditions of men, no doctrines of demons. You might exclaim that you don’t have any of these things in your life or in your Church. Really? Examine yourself, what you believe and why. This will be serious work. Are you peaceable and gentle or do you get in peoples faces when differences arise? Are you easy to approach and be questioned? Do you quickly and easily extend mercy to people? What about partiality, treating people differently based on external markers or your knowledge of them or even what you have heard (gossip). Is your life full of good fruit as defined by Scripture? Are you, am I, a hypocrite, an actor, a pretender? For example, are you gentle at Church but at home and/or work you are harsh and rough? Now, what about verse eighteen?
James 3:18 (KJV)
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Recall that righteousness is a condition acceptable to the Father and we are made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Right doing according to the Father produces fruit that benefits the Kingdom of God and other people which is one and the same. Next, we find that whatever our right standing and right doing produce is sown into people in peace to make peace. Remember things in the natural and supernatural reproduce after their own kind. Peace is a huge word in Scripture, so what are we sowing? We are sowing for one to be unified in purpose with God, to understand they are now alive to God (spirit, soul, and body), they can have calmness, they have access to all Heaven offers, and they are one with God. All good seed don’t you think?
TAKE HOME:
- Let’s examine ourselves and see where our wisdom is from. Just because you got it at Church does not mean it is from above and pure.
- Can you identify envy, strife or confusion in your life?
- Are you gentle and full of mercy producing good Godly fruit?
- Do you sow peace, the peace of God, Bible peace?
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
