A WISE MAN IS ENDUED WITH KNOWLEDGE

Greetings dear saints of God and welcome to our Study of the Bible Book of James. As I have mentioned many times, I see this as a straightforward (for the most part) Bible Book with Wisdom for today. Much of the Book as to do with the Words of our mouth which springs from the thoughts of our minds as does everything else in our lives, in this creation. There is no way to exaggerate the importance of our thoughts and the words that spring from those thoughts, those beliefs. Now let’s go ahead and jump into our Bible text for today. Remember, I teach the Bible from the Bible.
James 3:13-18 (KJV)
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
The Holy Spirit starts out asking us if there are any wise intelligent people among us? The question alone should bring us to a place of humility and bring our knees to a start to buckle. Then the Holy Spirit tells us how to identify those people and of course how to judge ourselves. Let’s first be sure we understand the word “conversation” in this verse. The Greek word transliterated to English as conversation is a feminine noun singular in number meaning a mode of life, conduct, behavior, deportment, life, as made up of actions according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. Bottom line has to do with how we live our life, what is seen and what is not seen by others. Being feminine means, it is contagious affecting (influencing) those around us. Being singular in number means that how we live our lives is entirely up to us. How Heavenly or worldly do you want your life to be, to manifest to others?
The knowledge of these persons does not come by osmosis in your sleep with a book on your chest. This natural and spiritual knowledge comes by studying the Word of God and the natural things of life. Studying and practicing not just reading about. These are the natural things of life especially in the sphere of influence to what God has equipped and called you. We are to be the very best at what we are called to do both naturally and spiritually. The Holy Spirit through James the Just then points out whatever this person does will be with great wisdom coupled with meekness or humility. This person is operating in an elevated level of understanding while knowing that what they know is but a tiny fraction of what is available to be known. This is where turning to the Holy Spirit for Wisdom in all that we do marks a person of humility.
As we enter verse fourteen the Holy Spirit through James contrasts the wise person with one who is not. He then gives us the characteristics of the unwise unintelligent person. These people will have bitterness, they have envy, strife in their hearts, and are boasters. I pray this does not describe you or me. Please know that strife in the heart will come out of the mouth in words, tone, and behaviors. Strife is evil, so is bitterness, envy and boasting, avoid it! Let’s look at this fourteenth verse in the NIV Bible translation for a little more clarity.
James 3:14 (NIV)
14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.
Perhaps most importantly is the terminal portion of the verse which commands us to not deny the truth. Denying Truth, speaking lies (traditions of men, doctrines of demons, sacred cows) rejecting knowledge is a shortcut to destruction.
Hosea 4:6 (KJV)
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
TAKE HOME:
- Does your life demonstrate intelligence with humility or lack of intelligence with arrogance?
- Are you studying the Word of God increasing in knowledge and doing as well as in your called sphere of influence? Remember we do all things as unto the Lord, we love God and we love our neighbor.
- Let’s examine ourselves for bitterness, envy, strife, boasting, and the rejection of Truth.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
