FIRE – FISH – AND BREAD

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. May our God richly bless you in your faithfulness. We appreciate and love those who partner with this Ministry. A partner studies the materials from this Ministry, prays for the Ministry, and financially supports the Ministry. We are always accepting new partners as the Lord so leads you to join with us financially. We also love and appreciate those who are friends of this Ministry meaning that they utilize our materials and pray for the Ministry. Before I move forward, I want to invite you to share this material as widely as possible to extend our reach with the Truth. The featured picture is a depiction of Jesus feeding the disciples with His third appearance to them since the Resurrection. Now, let’s move forward and read our primary Bible text aloud, yes, out loud.
John 21:9-11 (KJV)
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
The disciples are more or less hanging out together since the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Perhaps in boredom and lack of leadership they have gone fishing together. They have fished all night, caught nothing, and at the morning light see Jesus (but did not recognize Him) on the shore. He asks if they have caught any fish to which they answer, no. The only one to recognize that this man is Jesus was John, the disciple whom Jesus loved. I talked at some length last week about the connection of love and fully recognizing the Lord. Remember our love (agape) is the fuel, the power, the motivation for our faith. Our faith cannot exceed our love walk. Agape, love, is not a soft and cuddly love but is obedience to Scripture, selflessness, and observance of the Blood Covenant. There is not one ounce of emotion involved with agape love.
As these disciples come ashore, they observe and record for us the presence of a fire, fish cooking on this fire, and the presence of bread. Are we looking at the record of a simple camping lakeside breakfast, or are we being told much more? There is much more for us to learn as we look at this as more than a simple breakfast any of us might have on a camping trip. First, let’s deal with the phrase “a fire of coals”. Why do you suppose it does not just say Jesus had a fire going, was cooking some fish, and had brought some bread from town? Why “a fire of coals”. It seems that a very important, even a once in eternity, message is being conveyed with this term. I was led of the Holy Spirit to look at the first use of the word’s coals and fire together. This is found in the sixteenth chapter of Leviticus. Sixteen is of course the number of love and this chapter has to do with the High Priest entering the most Holy Place with a sacrifice for sin. Jesus is of course our High Priest, and He took His own precious Blood once for all into the Holy Place of Heaven.
Hebrews 9:11-14 (KJV)
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Let us rejoice with great joy for we have an eternal redemption that the blood of animals could not obtain but is now obtained by Christ (Messiah). Before I end for today let’s take a look at the following verse where we see first mention of coals of fire.
Leviticus 16:12 (KJV)
12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
