INDEPENDENCE DECLARED
Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to this exciting, encouraging, and empowering Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. Today however we will be stepping aside to discuss Independence Day, our heritage, and a warning. Before I move forward, please take a moment to share this Bible teaching and all other teachings as widely as possible by every means available to you. Let each of us do our part in making the goodness of God known as widely as possible. The featured picture depicts the framers of this great Republic.
It is Independence Day today here in the United States of America. The United States of America is a Covenant nation with the one and only Almighty God. We are one of only two Covenant nations in the earth for all time. The other Covenant nation is Israel. In the case of Israel, it was formed at the will of God through the man Abram/Abraham for a people to show His glory and provide a mechanism for the Messiah to come. In the case of America our forefathers were looking to establish a nation in Covenant with God based on Holy Scripture. Men and women coming to this nation entered into Covenant with God starting with the Mayflower Compact, November 11, 1620. The Mayflower Compact in part contains these words: “Having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith…[we] combine ourselves together into a civil body politic for…furtherance of the ends aforesaid.” All of the State Constitutions acknowledge God with the exception of Oregon. The following are examples from Maine and Texas.
PREAMBLE.
Objects of government. We the people of Maine, in order to
establish justice, insure tranquility, provide for our mutual
defense, promote our common welfare, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of liberty, acknowledging with grateful hearts the goodness of the Sovereign Ruler of the Universe in affording us an opportunity, so favorable to the design; and, imploring God’s aid and direction in its accomplishment, do agree to form ourselves into a free and independent State, by the style and title of the State of Maine and do ordain and establish the following Constitution for the government of the same.
PREAMBLE
Humbly invoking the blessings of Almighty God, the people of the State of Texas, do ordain and establish this Constitution.
We are indeed a blessed people above all nations to ever exist upon the earth because we entered Covenant with the only Living God. We based our nation upon the principles, the commands, of Holy Scripture, and we have been careful to honor the Jewish peoples and Israel. Enjoy this day and honor God for our nation with thanksgiving. Know that even today this nation affords great liberty, however, Jesus Christ has brought to us who know Him even greater liberty for eternity. Now, let’s turn our attention to a warning issued by a former President of these United States and Minister of the Gospel.
When giving his centennial address to Congress in 1876, President James Garfield issued the following warning: “Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature…If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”
Could this be a timelier warning? Who is allowing the wickedness we see all around us all the while, praying, begging God to do something about it?
Matthew 16:19 (KJV)
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
This is not just talking about each of us as individuals or things in our households but all places we have jurisdiction (places of our citizenship). Tomorrow I will resume with our discussions of the wonderful Book of Isaiah.
By: Dr. David R. Wood, Author, Bible Teacher, and Prophetic Voice
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. (Bold added)
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (Bold added)
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
