Tuesday – March 15, 2016

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. It is time for our Tuesday God’s Word. On Tuesday we also take the time and space to honor a State and call ourselves to prayer concerning not only that state but all of the governments of these United States. Today I am honoring my home state of Maine. Maine became a state as part of the Missouri Compromise on March 15, 1820 so today is the one-hundred and ninety-sixth (196) anniversary of Statehood. Back at that time there were free states and slave states. Maine was admitted as a free (no slaves) State and Missouri was admitted as a slave (allowing slaves) State on August 10, 1821 (24th State) as part of the Missouri Compromise. Pictured you will see the Governor’s Mansion, the map locating Maine within the United States and the Great Seal of the State of Maine. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) On the seal you will see the word ‘Dirigo’ which is the State Motto taken from the Latin meaning “I direct” or “I lead”. In a Gallup poll measuring religiousness Maine ranked 48 out of 50 meaning there were only two states, New Hampshire, and Vermont that were less religious than Maine. What a sad position to occupy. This nation and each of the states in their turn were established in Covenant with the Almighty God. Most of the states including Maine and the nation as a whole have turned their back on that Covenant but we shall all return to that Covenant before the Great Day of the Lord.
CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF MAINE
2003 ARRANGEMENT
(Arranged by the Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and approved by the Maine State Legislature,
Resolve 2003, chapter 98, pursuant to the Constitution of Maine,
Article X, Section 6)
PREAMBLE.
Objects of government. We the people of Maine, in order to
establish justice, insure tranquility, provide for our mutual
defense, promote our common welfare, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of liberty, acknowledging with grateful hearts the goodness of the Sovereign Ruler of the Universe in affording us an opportunity, so favorable to the design; and, imploring God’s aid and direction in its accomplishment, do agree to form ourselves into a free and independent State, by the style and title of the State of Maine and do ordain and establish the following Constitution for the government of the same.
Now back to our study in the Book of Colossians.
Colossians 2:6-7 (KJV)
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
In Colossians 2:6 we find the admonition, because you have received Christ Jesus as Lord walk in Him, walk as He walked, and walk as He is walking. Most of us on first hearing this kind of admonition take it not only as a very tall order but perhaps even an impossible order. However let me remind us that what is impossible for us is not impossible for Him.
Matthew 19:26 (KJV)
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
We must say to ourselves; do I believe this or not? If not we must ask forgiveness and ask Him to help us believe just as this father who had a son with a dumb spirit.
Mark 9:24 (KJV)
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
While we are looking at impossible to us things, let’s consider the following verses. (underlining added)
1 John 4:17 (KJV)
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
I will pick up right here tomorrow, take a moment and meditate.
