Greetings and welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries and a continuation of the special teaching titled “Mechanisms of Death”. In the past I have been encouraged to include more of my medical knowledge and experience with these spiritual teachings. I am a mostly retired Internal Medicine Physician but have two state medical licenses and keep current with my Continuing Medical Education. As you read the gospels Jesus used natural things all the time to illuminate spiritual Truths.
Let’s start. First of all, God never intended for man to die. The first man broke God’s Law and the wages of sin is death. Death entered not only mankind but all of creation. Initially people continued to have a very long lifespan compared with today for several hundred years after the fall. The reason for this was their thoughts/imaginations and words. But over time lifespan shortened as the demons taught people how to talk sickness and death. In the year 1200 the average life span was 30-40 years of age. Now mainly due to medical science, and sadly not faith in God, people have a life span or life expectancy of 77-78 years. This is far short of the 120 years spoken of in Genesis 6:3. Science has ascertained that 120 years is the outer edge of life span. Many factors contribute to death at under 120 years but the major determinate for the 120-year hard stop is genetic degradation, that is losing the ability for cell repair and/or replication.
The Word of God, thoughts and words in agreement with the Word of God, brings health and longevity. Other thoughts and words bring poor health and shortened lives. This Word of God not only gives eternal life but brings health to our physical bodies.
Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV)
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
It literally took the devil awhile to teach mankind how to talk themselves to death. It started in the Garden of Eden. Anything contrary to the Word of God is darkness and allows even invites the curse, the thief into our lives. Now talk of sickness, disease, and death is prevalent at family gatherings, when friends meet, and between believers. There will come a day however when death will be cast into the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:14), there will be a New Heavens and a New Earth and no more curse.
There are also many significant morbidities among God’s children. With regard to morbidity and mortality the world and the Church look alike. Sickness and disease is no less prevalent in the body of Christ than in the world. Thinking about lifespan, maybe for the born-again Christian it doesn’t need to be 120 years, think about it. This thing about living 120 years was before the Cross and the coming and availability of the Holy Spirit to all who are Christians. A man or woman today born again, filled with the Holy Spirit and Power, speaking the Words of God and doing all His will may not be bound to the 120-year limit in this mortal body. Afterall that limit will soon give way to immortality at the resurrection. Can we reach by faith into that time? Not the immortality part but a lifespan beyond 120 years as enjoyed by many before and even after the flood.
Mankind are three-part beings, spirit, soul, and body. God is three persons in one and so are we. Let’s listen to God talk among themselves about the making of man.
Genesis 1:26 (KJV)
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
To be in their image we would need to be three part, since they are three. This brings us to the actual making of man.
Genesis 2:7 (KJV)
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
It seems to me that the “breath of life” is the spirit of man and the “living soul” is the soul of man. The spirit is where the nine fruits of the spirit reside and the soul is the mind, will, and emotions. Both are from God and gives us the capacity to be like God, not God capital G but like god lower case g. Our flesh, material body came from the ground which was uncorrupted before sin and therefore was like the body Jesus has today and was immortal. Now listen as the Apostle Paul gives clarity to three-part nature of man.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We were and will again be a unified whole.
TAKE HOME:
- Man is spirit, soul, and body. We were created pure, undefiled, by God for they are pure. Sin resulted in the death of the spirit (disconnected from God), the thought life was corrupted with evil, and the body is diseased and dies due to evil.
- Sickness, disease, death is no different in the body of Christ then the world due to evil thoughts, words, and actions. What is the corrective action? Change our thoughts, words, and actions!
- The Word of God is eternal life to our whole being and health to this body. The Word comes by way of the soul/mind feeding our spirit and body.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow, and we will get to confounders, the silver cord, and modes of death, I promise. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
