SIN NO MORE
Tuesday – November 13, 2018, Kislev 5, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to the Bible Study from the Book of John presented by Dr. David R. Wood of Eastern Gate Ministries International. The featured picture today demonstrates some of this years fall foliage in October along a portion of the Belgrade Stream here in Maine. Now let’s go to our primary text in the fifth chapter of John and let’s read it aloud.
John 5:10-16 (KJV)
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
When I left off yesterday I was talking about the first few verses of our primary text and how the Jews were upset that this man with an infirmity thirty-eight years was carrying his bed on the Sabbath. Last week as we started this study we found this man near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem at the pool of Bethesda. Jesus asked him if he would be made whole. Let’s take a look at that in two different translations to perhaps get a better insight.
John 5:6 (AMP)
6 When Jesus noticed him lying there [helpless], knowing that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, Do you want to become well? [Are you really in earnest about getting well?]
John 5:6 (PassionNTPsa)
6 When Jesus saw him lying there, he knew that the man had been crippled for a long time. So Jesus said to him, “Do you truly long to be healed?”
One might automatically assume that a person in this condition would want to be healed or made whole with all their heart but as it turns out that is not always the case. We have all heard the expression that so and so enjoys poor health. I never heard anyone say they enjoyed their poor health however we have all witnessed people with other options and the one chosen was the one of continued poor health. This is a sad and disheartening circumstance especially for those who love the person. In this case however Jesus perceived that this man was serious about being made whole and Jesus answered that faith with a command. The command was the corresponding action mixed with the man’s faith which would ignite the Anointing on Jesus and make the man every bit whole. Now we have a man made whole and carrying his bed on the Sabbath and the Jews are in an uproar.
I talked about the Forth Commandment, Law of God, that which prohibited work on the Sabbath or what we would refer to as Sunday (proper Sabbath is Saturday). The first day of the week is Sunday on the Hebrew Calendar and because Jesus arose on the first day of the week that was adopted as the Christian Sabbath. When we reviewed the actual law in context we saw that the prohibition had to do with the carrying on of commerce. Over time the simple law had rules and regulations added much like some of our laws in America and the burden, the restrictions imposed, had no semblance to what God had commanded. Probably, many of you remember the Blue Laws here in the United States which prohibited most commerce on Sundays (were in effect when I was a kid). The Jews asked the man who told him to take up his bed and walk (like they didn’t know). We have no record of anyone else doing miracles at this time, especially not the Jews or the priests. In verse thirteen we find the man confessing to them that he did not know who healed him however as we come into verse fourteen we find Jesus making Himself known to the man.
John 5:14 (KJV)
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
Sin is an open door for the curse (stealing, killing, and destroying) to enter our lives. We have to give the thief, evil powers, entry for any of this to take place either by the deceptions of the enemy which enflame our own lusts or ignorance from a lack of study. There is mercy from God for temporary ignorance when the child of God is striving to increase in knowledge, faith, love, and following the voice of God. I will pick up right here tomorrow the Lord willing.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
