SIX WATER POTS OF STONE
Thursday – October 11, 2018, Cheshvan 2, 5779

Greetings dear partners and friends of Eastern Gate Ministries International and The Three Minute Word. Please know that I appreciate and pray for the partners (those that contribute) of this ministry daily and you share in the abundant grace God is showing forth to me. The current Bible Study is from the Book of John and we are at the marriage in Cana. Cana is not only the name of a village but of a stream in the Galilee. Water is symbolic of the Word of God and that will flow for a season and then no more in terms of people being able to be born again of that incorruptible seed, the Word of God. Now let’s dive into our study first reading aloud our primary text.
John 2:6-11 (KJV)
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
As we start at the top of our text we find a verse that is so rich in imagery. The pots to be used are of the earth, stone, they are to be filled with water, they are for cleansing for service to God, and there are six pots. Six is the number of man or mankind. We are the stone pots, we are cleansed by the water (Word of God), thereby becoming more effective in His service, and that service brings the redeeming Blood of Jesus to others. The Apostle Peter in His first Epistle refers to us, individual member of the Church as lively stones (1 Pe 2:5). Jesus is The Rock and we are little rocks or stones made alive by the water (Word) and thereby covered in the Blood (wine) of Jesus.
The Governor of the feast said that this latter wine was better than the wine served at the first, a reference to the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The Old was an atoning or covering of sin covenant by animal blood. That innocent animal blood was surrogate for the Blood of the coming Messiah. This New Covenant is redemptive not covering but completely removing our sin as though it never happened with the Blood of Jesus. The Governor in this account represents the Father and the bridegroom represents Jesus. Water to wine is telling us that the Word became flesh dwelt among us and suffered as the Lamb of God shedding that precious redeeming Blood (wine). The Water (Word – Prophetic Words and Covenant through Abram) brought the Blood. Think back to John 1:1, 14, and 36. Isn’t the Word of God just so marvelous!?
Returning to our primary text let’s look at verse eleven where we find the following phrase “manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.” We have talked already about the glory of Jesus in chapter one (verse fourteen – deliverance or salvation). This glory is the goodness of God and is always manifest for anyone and everyone to see. For example, there may be a glory cloud in a Church like at Azusa Street, like the cloud that guided the Israelites in the wilderness by day or the fire by night. A visible miracle like this one at Cana and the myriad to follow in the earthly life of Jesus were all a manifestation of His goodness, His glory, the goodness of the Father. Remember when Moses told God I want to see your glory God responded telling him He would show him (Moses) His goodness. The ultimate goodness or glory of God that Moses was allowed to see just as Abraham saw some 400 years earlier was the coming Messiah and the redeeming sacrifice.
The phrase “and his disciples believed on him” is interesting for these people had abandoned what they were doing (five so far) and were following Him. Of course, it has only been three days but none the less one might have thought they believed on Him at the onset not later with this miracle. We also have to ask ourselves about this idea that they believed on him. Those of you that have studied the Bible and read the four gospels know that the faith of the disciples was touch and go at best. They were not consistent to say the least. What about each of us? Perhaps the explanation lies in the fact that their belief in Him was not based upon the Word of God but a manifestation of the Word of God. Jesus feeds the five thousand one day, the next they show up for more physical food, He gives them strong spiritual meat, and they abandon Him. Haven’t you noticed that every Tom, Dick, and Harry shows up for the free meal at Church but you don’t see them Sunday morning for the Spiritual food (Word of God) which sustains both the spiritual and physical being. That of course is not automatic, if it were we would already be doing the works of Jesus and the greater works. So, what is the problem?
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
