AND THE THIRD DAY
Wednesday – October 10, 2018, Cheshvan 1, 5779

Oh, how good and how marvelous in our eyes are the doings of our God! Welcome back to this engaging and powerful Bible Study from the Book of John. I will be moving forward today into chapter two so let’s review our primary Bible text and find out what wonderful things await us.
John 2:1-5 (KJV)
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
Our primary passage above starts in an interesting fashion talking about the third day. If we take a moment to look back into chapter one it would appear that day zero is the Baptism of Jesus into His earthly ministry, day one is when there was the beginning of calling disciples, and day two is when Philip brings Nathanael to Jesus. It seems in the midst of this that Jesus and His disciples have received an invitation to a marriage in Cana. We are told a little later in this Book that this was the “beginning of miracles” in the ministry of Jesus.
John 2:11 (KJV)
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
I believe we can safely interpret the preceding verse to be referring specifically to the public ministry of Jesus. It seems that His mother, Mary, had witnessed His faith and Anointing at work prior to this since she had a rock-solid belief (faith) that Jesus could fix the wine problem. Now, let’s give some thought and attention to this reference to the third day. We are probably reminded of Scriptural references to the “third day”, one being when Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place a far off, a reference to the sacrifice of the Lamb of God the day he brought Isaac to the land of Moriah. Moses took the children of Israel across the Red Sea on dry land on the third day. Of course, we know that Jesus, the Lamb of God, was sacrificed in the land of Moriah and rose from the dead on the third day. All of these are deliverances which occurred on the third day and the most dramatic and lasting of course was the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ Jesus on the third day and His restoration as God by the mighty Power of God. By the way, that mighty Power is at work in us today.
Let me remind us that with God a day is as a thousand years to us (mathematically demonstrated by time dilation theory). Jesus ascended to Heaven forty days following His Resurrection some two thousand years ago. Jesus will return for His bride at the end of the second day (two thousand years) and on the third day there will be a magnificent Marriage Supper of the Lamb in Heaven! Notice that both Jesus and His disciples are called to this marriage. Christ Jesus is the groom of the Church and the Church is the bride of Christ Jesus. Jesus made a marriage proposal at his first coming, He has now gone to His Father’s house to prepare a place for us that we can be with Him. You can’t really have a marriage supper with only a groom or only a bride, can you?
Hosea 6:2 (KJV)
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Looking back at our text and verse three we start to see the discussion about the need for wine. It is commonly thought and taught that Jesus’ objection in verse four relates to the beginning of His earthly ministry but I do not believe that to be correct. Remember that wine is symbolic of the blood of Jesus and it was not yet time for Him to shed His blood on Calvary. It was a time for water (The Word) but not for the Blood quite yet. This brings us to verse five and a command from the supposed earthly mother of Jesus that we all need to follow to have success in life, in the Kingdom of God.
John 2:5 (KJV)
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
Let us each ask ourselves a question. Am I doing “whatsoever he saith”? Doing whatsoever He saith is a direct reflection of our love for Jesus, for the Father. Godly love (agape) at its core is obedience to God, to the Scripture. As we finish our study for today let’s meditate the following Scripture, receive them, believe them, doubt them not, and take the corresponding actions required.
Luke 6:44-46 (KJV)
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
John 14:15 (KJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:21 (KJV)
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Are we going to do what these Scriptures require or just sigh, close up our study, and go about our day as usual forgetting the picture we just saw in the mirror?
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
