THE DISCIPLES KNEW NOT THAT IT WAS JESUS

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. God is good and nothing but good dear brother and sister. No matter your circumstance at the moment or mine we must always remember that God is always, without exception good. There can be many ways that the curse comes or is given entrance (by us) but although permitted by God is not caused or initiated by God. God does not beat up on us to get our attention or teach us something and He is not subcontracting with the demons. Look at how Jesus put it.
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
I really like this verse for it very succinctly differentiates between the work of our enemy and the work of our Lord. Life can get pretty rough at times, deal with the rough as you must, but always run to God, the Word. As of this week I am starting with the last chapter of John. I am not sure where I will go from here. I had previously given thought to the Book of Isaiah. The featured picture today is an artist’s illustration of the disciples seeing Jesus on the shore and coming to Him with Peter in the lead (as usual). Please take a moment to share this Bible teaching as widely as possible. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today and read it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 21:3-6 (KJV)
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
We were reminded yesterday of the account early in the Ministry of Jesus with Peter, the other disciples, and fish. Let’s look at it again in light of our current text.
Luke 5:5-8 (KJV)
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Interesting that the ending of Jesus’ Ministry in the earth is similar to the beginning. This time the nets did not break but as we will see required partners to come along side. Just as Jesus cannot bring in the harvest by Himself requiring the body of Christ so each of us in the body of Christ require others to come along side us for our harvests. It seems that Peter recognized that he was faithless, which is sin, and fell at “Jesus’ knees”. In both cases a night of toiling was changed to great harvest, great victory by the Word of the Master. From toiling to Grace. In the first case Jesus was an Anointed man speaking by the Spirit and in the second case the Resurrected Savior fully restored as God. Same result in both cases. We are to operate the same way brother and sister.
Looking back at our Book of John text I always find it amazing that these men who had very close and constant contact with Jesus for three years do not recognize Him. There is nothing in the text to suggest that He has a different appearance. After all on Mount Transfiguration when His appearance did change, they had no problem recognizing Him or Moses and Elijah. Of the course the recognition of Moses and Elijah was a supernaturally granted knowing. Today, since the return of the Holy Spirit, we would call it a Word of Knowledge. Are we seeing Jesus, hearing Jesus, yet recognize Him not? It does not seem that our hearing is the problem but our recognizing.
John 10:27 (KJV)
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
These sheep heard His voice (even saw Him), and they followed His direction but did not know it was Him. As we move forward this week, we will see that the disciple referred to as “that disciple whom Jesus loved” recognized Him first. That word ‘loved’ is agape love.
Lord willing, more on this tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
