THE FATHER AND THE SON
Tuesday – November 27, 2018, Kislev 19, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. If you are receiving this on Facebook don’t forget to hit the “like” and “share” buttons. The featured picture is of Coos Canyon here in Maine. If we will allow it and receive this Word in faith our faith will grow and we will do the works of Jesus and the greater works. We must determine to remain focused with laser precision on the hope of the gospel. The hope of the gospel is all the promises of God which are yes and amen in Him. We are to be focused on discharging our Kingdom responsibilities and the Kingdom benefits will flow to us. We do all by faith with our focus on the hope (goal), in love, led of the Holy Spirit. The more fervently that we seek after and discharge our Kingdom responsibilities the greater the benefits received. This is because when we have faith in the responsibility, we also have a corresponding faith in receiving the benefit. We have an absolute responsibility to find out and discharge our responsibilities in the Kingdom of God. In so doing we become perfected (more mature) in our ability to minister to others. Also, we are looking to have our ministry to others totally directed of God not by tradition or peer pressure. This is what we see in the ministry of Jesus (directed completely by the Father) and this is the model for our ministry. Now, let’s read our primary text aloud and then move forward in our study.
John 5:19-23 (KJV)
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
As we look further into verse twenty in our text, we find the phrase “greater works”. These greater works are not the greater works we in the body of Christ are to do post the Resurrection of Christ and His ascension to the Throne but greater works in the ministry of Jesus. Jesus could not do the greater works we are to do because it was not legal for Him to do so. The price of sin was not paid, He did not yet have the keys of death and Hell, and He had not conquered the devil restoring authority (dominion) and Power (the Blessing) to mankind who would place themselves in Him. The Cross, His testimony in Hell, the preaching of the gospel in Abraham’s Bosom, His Resurrection from the dead and His full restoration as God (King of kings) and our High Priest changed everything. The finished work of Christ restored all things and better. The better part is that we unlike Adam have a safety net and His name is Jesus. Unlike Adam we are not subject to the law of sin and death. We are in no way encouraged to sin but should we sin we do not instantly die spiritually and without remedy but we are subject to mercy and grace in Christ Jesus. Oh, what a Savior!
As we look at verse twenty-one and we see the statement about the Father raising the dead and likewise the Son will raise the dead as well. The thing that may be puzzling is that the verse ends with “whom he will”. This makes it seem in some aspects arbitrary but let’s think about this in context of what we know thus far. We know that all of the acts of Jesus are led of the Father (Holy Spirit) and He (Jesus) is not led to do anything where faith is not present. You may be thinking, the person is dead, how can they be exercising faith? Someone directly connected to them like Martha for Lazarus or the woman with the dead son had faith for the raising from the dead. Remember, God is not a respecter of persons but He is a respecter of faith. Faith has to be in the Word of God and in God Himself. Since Calvary, if we are not in Christ Jesus and operating in the name of Jesus nothing happens, the Power of God will not flow. If we go into the bank and ask for money but won’t tell them by what name we have the authority to access the money it is otherwise called a bank robbery. When we speak to the Father in the name of Jesus we are viewed just like Jesus by the Father. This is not to say that we have to say “in the name of Jesus” every time we speak to the Father. He knows who we are and whose we are but when we speak before other people it is important that they know in whose authority we exercise authority. By the way, the devils know if we are operating in the authority of Heaven or our own. Lord willing, I will pick up with verse twenty-two tomorrow.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
