THE PHARISEES HEARD
Thursday – February 28, 2019, Adar A 23, 5779
Yep, more ranch and more donkeys eating stale bread. Greetings and welcome back to this instructive and powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. God is so very good to us, giving us His Word so that we don’t just wander about in the dark having and bringing chaos and destruction to ourselves and others. Let’s now read our primary Bible text aloud and move right into the study, faith is coming, be sure it is powered of love, led of the Holy Spirit and accompanied by corresponding action.
John 7:30-34 (KJV)
30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
Many of the people believed on Jesus but not the religious ruling class. If you study the Scripture you will find that there were those in the religious ruling class who did believe upon Jesus but not the higher echelons who would finally succeed in bringing about His death, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. The people reasoned that the Messiah, the Christ, certainly would not do more miracles than what they had witnessed of this man, Christ Jesus. Let’s digress for a moment and look at the “foundation of the world”.
Revelation 13:8 (KJV)
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
The primary meaning of the word foundation in the preceding verse is founding or conception but the root word means casting down. Now, let’s think about the root word of foundation which means casting down. What casting down is being discussed? It would seem to me, to be a reference to Genesis 1:2 which is at the time of the rebellion of Lucifer and his casting to the earth with the earth being thrown into the chaos. That is the casting down. This is when in the counsels of Heaven, a plan was put into place for this present creation which starts in Genesis 1:3. When I speak of the counsels of Heaven, I am talking of a plan by the triune co-equal persons of God imagining this creation. God wanted a family, other persons just like Him, in His image and likeness. There have no doubt been myriad creatures created by God but we are the first and the last to be created in His very own image, spirit, soul, and body.
You can bet the modern day Pharisees have heard about you as well if you are doing the work of the Kingdom and speaking the Truth and it infringes on what they consider their turf. Back in verse thirty we saw that they sought to take Him, now in verse thirty-two the Chief Priests sent officers to take Him. I wonder if they will be successful this time? Jump ahead in your Bible to verse forty-four and you will see that again no man laid a hand on Him. Why are people able to lay hands on Christians today, perhaps even you? What about the Apostle Paul? It is not because Christ Jesus was in the earth with all the powers of God, for He was not in the earth in the form of God but of man, an Anointed man, like you and me. We are not doing what He did and therefore we are not getting His results nor do we walk in His protection.
As we go into verses thirty-three and thirty-four, we find Jesus throwing gas on the fire. They are in an uproar already but He does not leave well enough alone. They are wanting His life that day but He tells them He will be around a while longer and then He is going back to the Father. In their mind this is blasphemy upon blasphemy. Jesus tells them you will look for me but you will not find me and moreover you cannot come where I am. Without repentance they are not going to Heaven they are going to Hell. They have condemned themselves to damnation by rejecting the Messiah, the Savior. Of course, people are doing this today by hardening their hearts repeatedly rejecting the call of the Spirit of God, and having no intercessor. Dear brother and sister every man and woman, every boy and every girl needs an intercessor in their life whether they know it or not. Lord willing, I will pick up here tomorrow.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
