THE SON CAN DO NOTHING OF HIMSELF
Friday – November 16, 2018, Kislev 8, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this robust and enlightening Bible Study taken from the Book of John. Isn’t this fall foliage just wonderfully beautiful? This is my favorite time of year in Maine. I realize I am stretching some of you quite a distance, some of you set in your ways may be all out of sorts, and some of you may be jumping with joy that someone is finally declaring the Truth. Let us all be good Berean’s and see if this is true. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary text reading it aloud.
John 5:17-19 (KJV)
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
Jesus, the Word, emptied Himself of all that made Him equal with God when He left Glory and entered the womb of the virgin Mary with the purpose of redeeming mankind. Jesus became a man emptied of the attributes of God. That is to say that the spirit and soul of Jesus was as possessed in eternity past by the Word, however, He seems at least initially to be without the memory of eternity past, and emptied of omnipotent (all powerful), omniscience (all knowing), and omnipresence (everywhere present) throughout the earthly ministry. The Word tells us that the Father fashioned a body for Him (Hebrews 10:5) just as He had fashioned a body some four thousand years earlier for Adam. The Father (the Triune God) fashioned a body for mankind and poured their image and likeness into it, we have a duplicate of the spirit and soul of God. We are of His spiritual DNA. In obedience, in faith, in love, led of the Spirit we are inhabited by the fullness of God and He flows through us. This is the same God who created all, who raised Jesus from the dead, and one day soon will make us like unto Jesus. Jesus today in Heaven is all man (glorified body like Adam) and all God (restored attributes unique to God). We today and for eternity in Him are all man and all god. Let us think about what Jesus said to Mary Magdalene immediately after His resurrection.
John 20:16-18 (KJV)
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
From what Jesus says this point in time seems to be between the Resurrection and the full restoration of Jesus as God. We talked about the full restoration of Jesus as God at length about during our study of the first chapter of Hebrews (find in the WordPress archives). In this preceding passage what I want us to focus on is the language Jesus uses to describe His (Jesus’) and her (Mary Magdalene’s) relationships to each other and the Father. Jesus indicates that the Father is not only His Father but her Father so by extension our Father. He says that the Father is His God and also her God (review Hebrews 1:5-8). Then He refers to the other disciples as His brethren therefore we also are brethren of Christ Jesus. We are family with God precious brothers and sisters!!! We are not pets, we are not another species (like angels), we are gods with a body that soon will be uncorrupted just as our Saviors, and spiritual DNA from the Father, we are of like kind, the same kind! Just as Jesus told them that day in His earthly ministry that He does nothing of Himself so it is with us now and forever. Let’s meditate the following Scriptures as I finish for today. Are the fire extinguishers near by?
Psalm 82:6 (KJV)
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
John 10:33-38 (KJV)
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
Wow, did you keep the fire extinguisher handy? Jesus is the Son (large S indicating deity with all the attributes of big G God) and we are sons of God. Same spiritual DNA as Jesus now and the same physical body as Jesus on our Resurrection Day. Let me point out one last thing, our spirit man is partitioned between spirit and soul. The spirit man portion at salvation is quickened or made alive and perfect. However, our soul although the same DNA as God is seriously diseased but that is cured with the Word of God. Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. God is so good!
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
