THE SON OF GOD – THE KING OF ISRAEL
Tuesday – October 9, 2018, Tishrei 30, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study of the Book of John. We are still in the first chapter of this wonderful Book however today we should be in a position to move into chapter two tomorrow. All of Scripture is so wonderful, remember it is our life. You may be wondering about the pictures I am featuring this week. These were taken by my daughter on a recent trip to Maine at Mount Desert Island. As you can see and will see throughout the week this is a wonderfully beautiful area on the Maine coast.
John 1:47-51 (KJV)
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
I talked at some length about this man Nathanael who from the context of the narrative appears to be joining Jesus as a disciple but in fact is not being called as a disciple. However, from the conversation that we have recorded between Nathanael and Jesus it seems likely that he may have been a Prophet in Israel (verse 49 above). Notice in verse forty-eight Jesus tells Nathanael (and Philip) that he saw him under a fig tree. Nathanael concludes immediately that Jesus could only know this by Divine means. He was right in part. Jesus did not know this functioning as God but He knew this functioning as an Anointed (Christ) man (Jesus) full of the Holy Spirit and operating in the fullness of the gifts of the Spirit. The operation of gifts in the congregation or in us as individuals should be common if not daily and include visions, the gift of knowledge, and so on. This however does not appear to be the operation of one of the gifts (knowledge) of the Spirit but Jesus was shown a vision of Nathanael beneath that fig tree by the Father.
Nathanael recognizes Jesus as a teacher (Rabbi) in Israel but more importantly exclaims: “thou art the Son of God: thou art the King of Israel”. The use of the word “the” narrows the focus to the only son of God called or capable of taking away the sins of the world, the Messiah. We have discussed many times how God, the Father, has many sons (and daughters), all made possible by THE Son of God. The only one that could pay the price, God Himself made flesh, the sinless Lamb of God. According to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament the use of the term “the Son of God” or the “only begotten Son of God” in describing the relation of Jesus to God the Father presents Him as unique, and the only one of a class or kind. I have discussed how Jesus was unique at His coming and how His salvation is our salvation as we are made like unto Him now and at the Resurrection.
Let us remember that when Abram entered into Blood Covenant with the Father that Covenant was between Jesus and the Holy Spirit and Abram. Jesus ministry in the earth was possible and facilitated in whole by the Eternal Spirit (Holy Spirit). Jesus was the “seed” of Abraham from which we all are benefiting beyond measure.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV)
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
At the same time a Covenant was made for the natural seed of Abraham, the Jewish or Hebrew peoples, a Covenant was made with us all in Him, in Christ. In the end the Jews will have the blindness removed that came due to the rejection of the Messiah and will receive Him (Jesus) as the Messiah and the Father will take away their sin. This happens, culminates, at the Second Coming and with the battle of Armageddon. Jesus will reign over the whole earth from Jerusalem (King David over Israel) in what is commonly referred to as the Millennial Reign or the Thousand Year Reign of Christ.
Jeremiah 23:5-6 (KJV)
5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jesus then goes on in His conversation with Nathanael with a prophetic Word. Nathanael was allowed to see the day when Jesus was risen from the dead, presented to the Father, and fully restored as God, all put under His feet.
Daniel 7:13-14 (ESV)
13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.
14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
