Abraham and Isaac – Part Eight
Welcome back to the Trail of Blood from the Garden of Eden, really from the foundation of the world to the Mercy Seat of Heaven. We have witnessed the first shedding of blood and destruction of an innocent animals body in the Garden on that awful day of sin and death to the sin sacrifice of Noah following the flood. We are now about to deal with the most pivotal event in the redemption account aside from the Cross, the victory in Hell and the Resurrection. Abraham has come with Isaac and two young men to Mount Moriah, a three-day journey, to sacrifice Isaac as God has commanded. Isaac submits to being sacrificed just as Jesus will willingly submit to being sacrificed some 2000 years in the future on this very same mountain. Let’s pick up the account with Abrahams hand lifted and ready to plunge the knife into Isaac. This is part eight of this account, mankind is about to get a new beginning.
Genesis 22:10-13 (KJV)
10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. [2]
The moment of truth has come. God saw that Abraham would not withhold his only son (son of promise). He calls from heaven and provides a ram for the sacrifice. Remember, in a blood covenant, nothing can be withheld from the other without breaking the Covenant, which can result in the death of the party breaking the covenant, often at the hands of his own family. After the sacrifice of the ram for a burnt offering in the place of his son, Isaac, the angel of the LORD calls out to Abraham a second time.
Genesis 22:15-18 (KJV)
15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. [2]
O what powerful words, the harvest of obedience. Your natural family (the sand) the Jewish people will be multiplied exceedingly. He speaks of the stars of heaven, which is the Church. Then He says, “Thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies”. To possess is to have complete control. The word “seed” there is singular masculine referring to Jesus. To listen to some in the Church you would think we are in some sort of see saw battle, not the case at all, Jesus won the war, we are more than conquerors, we are occupiers. Christ is the seed of Abraham; and praises be unto God; we are in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:16 (KJV)
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV)
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
What gate does Christ possess and we in Him possess? In Bible times, the cities were walled with very thick walls and complex gates. Whoever controlled the gates, controlled the city. Just like the children of Israel did not enter the Promised Land due to the giants, walled cities, and iron chariots so will the demons try to persuade us today that we are not able to occupy what Jesus won at Calvary, in Hell, and at His Resurrection.
All that was lost in the garden is restored by the shed blood and broken body of Christ. We the Church are without spot or wrinkle in Christ Jesus, united in the faith of Jesus Christ, and are Satan’s worst nightmare. We are an unstoppable threat to his kingdom. Redeemed man, covenant man, is just a little lower than Elohim; the same as Adam was just a little lower than Elohim. We are crowned with glory and honor. We have been given dominion over all the works of His hands, and all things are under His feet – thus under our feet. When we have stepped into this revelation written by David in Psalm eight, then Jesus will appear in that eastern sky and call the Church home!
Finally, in verse eighteen of Genesis twenty-two, the angel of the Lord says, “In thy seed”, who is Jesus, “shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.” And why will all the nations of the earth be blessed? All the nations of the earth are blessed due to the obedience of one man. That man was Abraham, who brought one man, Jesus, into the earth to redeem us all, Jew and Gentile alike. You are one man (person), right? Just think of the potential of one obedient person in the plan of God.
TAKE HOME:
- We must lay the most cherished things, people, activities, in our lives on the altar before the Lord.
- The Church, each of us, have the right and the capacity to possess the gates of our enemies and occupy what they now occupy illegally.
- We must be the conduit through which Jesus flows to be the promised blessing in all the earth.
