THEN ANSWERED JESUS AND SAID

Greetings dear partners and friends, welcome back to this faith building Bible Study of the Book of John. I know you are likely very busy this week, Thanksgiving week, however, I strongly urge you not to let down your attention and dedication to the Word of God. Our victory and success in the Kingdom of God is not dependent upon a tender turkey but a tender heart after God filled with thanksgiving to God. God is so good and merciful to give us His Word, we are not in the dark for His Word is light. The featured picture is of the wonderful and beautiful Maine foliage last month, this particular picture was out my garage door. Now, let us dive into our study of the Word of God by reading our primary text aloud.
John 5:19-23 (KJV)
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
As you will recall last week we spent a lot of time talking about the man with an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus came on the Sabbath to the pool of Bethesda near the Sheep gate they interacted and the man was made whole. Jesus had given him the command to pick up his bed and walk which the man did, it was necessary to his healing for it was the corresponding action in this case to his faith. Because it was the Sabbath the Jews were enraged and wanted to kill Jesus. It went downhill from there when Jesus called God His Father making Himself equal with God in the eyes of the Jews. We talked about that at some length as well, it would do well for the readers to go back and meditate on these Truths. Now, Jesus opens His mouth to answer the Jews and to give us most valuable insights not just into His ministry in the earth but our ministry in the earth in His footsteps. You may notice that from time to time I use the phrase “His ministry in the earth”. That is because Jesus still has a ministry concerning us from Heaven which is as High Priest and as the Head of the Church (King of kings). However, at no time for any reason does He or any other person of the Trinity or Holy Angels negate the freewill of any person.
As we pick up with verse nineteen I want to spend just a moment to speak to the Bible Numerology in play. John is the fourth Book of the New Testament and the number four has to do with light (illumination), authority, and power. We are in the fifth chapter of John and five is the number of the Grace and Glory of God (aspects of the Holy Spirit). We are about to discuss verse nineteen and as you may recall nineteen is the number of faith. Watch as I discuss this verse if we do not see the faith of Jesus at work as we recall that no man can please God without faith. Everything that God or man does is by faith powered by love. Jesus operated in the earth as a man, not as God. The things that God does are in response to our faith. We God exercise His faith in the creation of all things. In our study of Scripture we will see Jesus exercising authority and power as He is led of the Spirit of God in faith and in love. Recall that Godly love at its core is obedience to the Word, obedience to God, obedience to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. This exercise of authority and power in faith, in love, led of the Spirit resulted in the manifestation of God’s Grace and Glory. We just saw this in operation with the man with the infirmity thirty-eight years. As I move forward let’s take a look at our verse in the Amplified Version of the Holy Bible.
John 5:19 (AMP)
19 So Jesus answered them by saying, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way [in His turn].
This is where I will pick up Lord willing tomorrow. Jesus is telling those gathered that He is doing what the Father is showing Him to do and that He is not doing it in His own power or will. We will explore this in much more detail tomorrow. This study is critical to understanding the ministry of Jesus as a man and understanding exactly how our own ministries are to be governed.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
