THEY TURN AWAY FROM GOD

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome to another four days of studying the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means at your disposal. Thank you so much for sharing. If you are not sharing, why not? Sharing is a very easy and practical way of bringing the good news to many more people. They like you and me will make a choice to receive or reject. The featured picture is of me several years ago on the ranch feeding stale bread to our donkeys. A wonderful chapter of life and now I am in another wonderful chapter of life. Our God is so very good. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text from the wonderful book of Isaiah. Remember, read out loud.
Isaiah 27:11-13 (TLB)
11 My people are like the dead branches of a tree, broken off and used to burn beneath the pots. They are a foolish nation, a witless, stupid people, for they turn away from God. Therefore, he who made them will not have pity on them or show them his mercy.
12 Yet the time will come when the Lord will gather them together one by one like handpicked grain, selecting them here and there from his great threshing floor that reaches all the way from the Euphrates River to the Egyptian boundary.
13 In that day the great trumpet will be blown, and many about to perish among their enemies, Assyria and Egypt, will be rescued and brought back to Jerusalem to worship the Lord in his holy mountain.
Verse eleven is what God said about His people at that time and at this time. We have indeed become a very foolish nation as a whole and the Church in many ways in particular. Is it possible to think we are pursuing after God when in reality we are far from Him? Listen to Jesus.
Matthew 15:7-9 (KJV)
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
How many reading this would say, “yeah that’s me”. What is the fruit of my life, of your life? When we believe the wrong thing, no matter how sincere or passionate we are, we are not with God, and the fruit of our lives will be the curse. Believing things about God that are untrue is no different than turning away from God, it will have the same fruit. Do we question our beliefs from time to time, not to induce doubt, but to prove that what we believe is actually what the full counsel of Scripture teaches. Before I move forward let me bring into focus that the working of a Scripture depends on circumstances. Examine the following.
Psalm 91:11-12 (KJV)
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
We all recognize this as the Truth, right? What is the prerequisite for this to work?
Psalm 91:9 (KJV)
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
Was that met in this temptation of Jesus recorded in Luke 4?
Luke 4:9-12 (KJV)
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Jesus called this tempting God. Asking for a sign is tempting God. Who would Jesus have made His Lord if he followed Satan’s suggestion, taunt. This was not led of the Holy Spirit, of the Father, and therefore to do it was tempting God and Jesus would have died right there and then. This was the pride of life temptation that Adam and Eve failed, but praise the Lord Jesus passed.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
