THE NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH
Video link: https://youtu.be/kR1uV74SpJQ
Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to this engaging and empowering study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. The Lord is so good to give an immense treasury of His thoughts, His commandments for a truly abundant victorious life now and over the top eternity. The featured picture today depicts the horrors of Hell in keeping with the last verse of Isaiah. Dear ones, Hell is very real. We don’t just cease to exist with natural death, we will be very conscious either in Heaven or in Hell forever. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text presented today from the NKJV. Please continue reading out loud.
Isaiah 66:22-24 (NKJV)
22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the LORD, “So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the LORD.
24 “And they shall go forth and look Upon the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, And their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”
Perhaps you have noticed here that heavens are pleural whereas when the Apostle John first described it the word heaven was singular. Notice also it is future tense.
Revelation 21:1-2 (NKJV)
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Heaven in the first verse is singular in number and masculine in gender whereas earth is singular in number but feminine in gender. This is interesting for that would seem to indicate that the Eden Mandate to be fruitful, multiply, replenish, subdue the earth, tend to, guard, and not mix the knowledge of good and evil remains in place forever. Notice in the second verse a “New Jerusalem” indicating that the abode of God is created new to be in this new earth. The old Jerusalem with the old Tabernacle remains in the old Heaven. What are we to make of this?
It seems that as we examine verse twenty-three, we are in the Millennial Reign period of time. We see this in the Zechariah Scripture previously presented.
Zechariah 14:16 (KJV)
16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
Finally, the last verse of this amazing Book. At first when I examined this I thought about the final deception of Satan and his final attempt to kill mankind sending them to Hell.
Revelation 20:7-10 (NKJV)
7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison
8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.
9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
However, this does not seem to fit for immediately following this is the White Throne Judgment, all people not in the Lamb’s Book of Life are cast into the Lake of Fire, and then there is the new heaven and the new earth. No corpses to look at. This most likely is talking about the aftermath of the Battle of Armageddon. These people were in rebellion against God and in no small way. They are in Hell and their bodies for a season open for all to see. The word worm in the text is not talking about a physical worm but their sin. In Hell their sin is ever before them and the flames of Hell will never be quenched.
Lord willing, I will pick up with a brand-new study next week. This study of Isaiah started the 24th of May, 2021. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
