WHOSE WORDS ARE IN OUR HEART?
Tuesday – September 11, 2018, Tishrei 2, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to our study of the wonderful Bible Book of John. We have now entered the season of the fall Feasts of the Lord. Yesterday I discussed Rosh Hashanah or the Feast of Trumpets and its significance to us. The featured picture was taken on a recent trip to Camden and Mount Batti. It is a beautiful scenic site overlooking the town of Camden and West Penobscot Bay. The man with the blue shirt headed to the edge is me. Now, let each of us prepare to read our primary Bible text first making the predetermined decision to see how this Scripture applies to us and then apply it with the help of Holy Spirit. In this way we become more like the Word, more like Jesus, more like Father God. Remember, we are made in the image and likeness of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) however as fallen peoples before salvation we were not thinking, talking, or acting like God. Now, after salvation we have the responsibility to change our thoughts, our words, and our ways by the Word of God. Scripture calls it a renewing of the mind. For todays teaching Holy Spirit is leading me to digress a little, so let us read the first three verses of John again and talk about them.
John 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
I was planning to move into verse fourteen today but before I move forward I believe Holy Spirit would have me bring something into our thinking that is vital. As we started this chapter we saw how in the beginning the thing that was chief among all things was the spoken Word of God which was indistinguishable from God. Words are creative on all levels. Jesus tells us in His ministry that we speak words out of the abundance of our heart or our thoughts.
Luke 6:43-45 (KJV)
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
I think Jesus makes it pretty clear here that the words coming from our mouth which arise from the predominate thoughts of our mind shape our world. The things we think, believe, and speak whether they be good or bad shape our world. Fortunately, or unfortunately, we should be able to recognize this and others certainly can around us when they understand the spiritual laws. Unfortunately, the Church has developed a theology to account for the bad or failures in our lives as somehow not being our fault. What have we built our house (life) upon?
Luke 6:47-49 (KJV)
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Is my house built upon the rock, unwavering faith in the Word of God, or is it built upon unbelief? The words that we speak out of our heart in faith whether they be good (Word of God) or bad determine the course of our lives. The Words that the Word (Jesus) spoke at the creation caused all of this material (physical) world to come into being. We have done the same thing in the course of our lives. Whatever, the circumstances of our lives at this moment, they were dictated by our faith statements (that in which we have faith) of the past. Remember, at the creation of Adam and Eve they exchanged their faith in God and His Word for the Serpent and his words. Whose words are you and I developing our faith in? We must practice listening to ourselves talk and on purpose make our words to be His Words. That does not mean we go around quoting the King James Bible but it does mean that whatever is coming out of our mouth reflects the Word of God and aligns with the Word of God.
As I bring today’s Bible Study to a close let us consolidate in our thinking that all of the natural world was brought into being when God spoke. Likewise, all of our natural (and spiritual) world has been created by the words we have spoken in faith, be they of the devil or of God. Nothing in our lives is happenstance (an accident, coincidence, chance, fluke, luck, quirk, or a twist of fate)! Concerning our spiritual world, before salvation we were in the kingdom of darkness (the Serpent) but when we spoke words of faith we were immediately translated out of darkness into the light.
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Colossians 1:13 (KJV)
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Let each of us examine and judge ourselves as to our thoughts, our words, and our ways and what our true beliefs truly are. Those that are not like our Heavenly Father let us purpose to start the process of changing our mind, our words, and our ways to be like His.
PRAYERS AND QUESTIONS – please, anytime you have an issue that you want me, this ministry to pray for you, a person you love or a situation contact me. Accordingly, if you should have a question about the Bible, please do not hesitate to ask it.
Until our next publication, receive this Scripture (first person) for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving. We are in Christ Jesus, whatever His position is, is our position!
Ephesians 1:19-23 (KJV)
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
