WHY DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND ME?
Friday – April 5, 2019, Adar B 29, 5779
Greetings precious ones of God and greetings to those who are not of God and welcome to this in-depth study of the Book of John. Our God is so good! On the right side of the picture you will see the old 54 Ford station wagon that was my wheels for a time after I got my license at age 15. Oh, if that car could talk. Gas was about 20₵ a gallon.
Now, let’s direct our attention back to our very important Bible Study as we move forward and upward being of increasing value in the Master’s Hand. Let’s start by reading our primary Bible text aloud.
John 8:40-43 (KJV)
40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Like I said before, Jesus is not pc. Jesus tells them plainly that He has told them the Truth. This Truth is really much more than an accurate statement of fact. The Words of God are eternal life and abundance in every realm. You have no doubt noticed that I capitalize the word “Truth” to separate it from ordinary truthful statements of everyday life. If I say “I have a HP Officejet Pro 8710 in my office that is the truth but it is not a life changing, life giving, eternal life sustaining Truth. Jesus has been telling them where He got His Words and then bluntly tells them “Ye do the deeds of your father” clearly delineating the source of His words and the source of their words. What is the source of my words, the source of your words? What fountain am I drawing from, what fountain are you drawing from? Let us determine to continually dip into the fountain of life and not death. As we move forward let’s take a look at another translation of the Bible.
John 8:41-42 (TLB)
41 No, you are obeying your real father when you act that way.” They replied, “We were not born out of wedlock—our true Father is God himself.”
42 Jesus told them, “If that were so, then you would love me, for I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me.
These folks, religious leaders, are convinced they are serving the one and only true living God, Jehovah but Jesus tells them flat out that their father is not Jehovah (God the Father). This is unfortunately rampant today with decent sincere people following a gospel that is corrupted with the traditions of man and the doctrines of demons and thus not at all of God. That is not to say they will not make Heaven their home but it is to say that victory in this life and what is accomplished for the Kingdom of God will suffer great harm. When we pick this up next week, we will see Jesus point out to them directly that their father is the devil. Jesus does not mince words, He goes to the heart of the matter. Of course, most if not all of you knew already where Jesus is headed with this. One very serious point I want to make before we end for today. These Jews were in unbelief, unbelief is sin, and Jesus is clearly saying that comes from another father, not Father God, but the devil. He was telling the Truth, they did not recognize the Truth for it was not in them, they thought they were worshipping God but they couldn’t for the Word of God was not in them. They were believing another gospel which by definition is of the making of man (traditions – ultimate origin is demons) or the doctrine of demons. Also, by definition this means they didn’t believe the Truth. Unbelief is sin and unbelief keeps one from the rest (provision) of God. In unbelief we are doing the deeds of the devil who Jesus says is our father when we do his deeds, repeat his language, and so on.
Jesus tells them He didn’t just decide to come on His own, Jehovah (all of the Triune co-equal persons of God) God sent Him for their eternal benefit, all of our eternal benefit. When Jesus says to them that if they knew the Father (God) they would not only know Him but would love Him which is at the core of what it means to obey His Words. Next, you can almost hear the frustration in Jesus’ voice and perhaps He throws up His hands saying; “Why do ye not understand my speech?” Then Jesus answers His own question saying; “because ye cannot hear my word”. Why couldn’t they hear the word? Of course, they are hearing the physical words but their hearts are hardened from hearing corrupted word and receiving it and getting more and more corrupted word finally flushing out all Truth. It is spiritual law my dear friends.
Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV)
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
