THEN WERE THE DISCIPLES GLAD

Greetings to the saints of God and those who are pre-saints of God. We welcome all to The Three Minute Word blog. Please take a moment right now to share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach of the Truth. The featured picture this week again like last week is illustrating Jesus’ appearance among His disciples after the Resurrection. I will be spending a little more time today on the topic of peace. I talked, taught, about ‘peace’, the peace of God, our peace (we got an exact duplicate copy) last week and yesterday. When I say an exact duplicate copy, I am not saying it was developed and functioning as our Father’s but has all the potential of our Fathers’, Jesus, the Holy Spirit. Isn’t that wonderful! Just as we are born with physical bodies like our parents those bodies must be developed in order to reach the same functional level as our parents. I believe this is a very important concept, Truth, to be inculcated (instilled) into our thinking, our knowledge, that extends to other areas of our spiritual understanding.
One of the things that is virtually absent from the Church at large is who we are in Christ Jesus. The devil(s) have not lost sight of who we are, however, they have done an outstanding job of robbing us of this knowledge. So long as we do not understand who we are, what we are, what our potential is, the extent of our authority and the Power backing that authority, we are of very little threat to the kingdom of darkness. What do you say we go about the business of changing all of that for the glory of God? Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today and read it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 20:19-21 (KJV)
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
As you will recall, the Resurrection of Jesus occurred just a few hours ago. Three days before this He hung on the Cross shedding His precious Blood giving all the option to be redeemed out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God. He took the curse of sin in His body so we do not have to suffer the curse of sin in our bodies, by His stripes we were healed. He had been in Hell so that we don’t have to go. He preached the gospel in the Bosom of Abraham and led those captive there until He, the Messiah, could come, Home. At His resurrection they were also resurrected and He, Jesus, escorted them into the presence of the Father. He has appeared to Mary Magdalene and taken His Precious Blood to the Mercy Seat of Heaven. Now, Jesus, the Risen Savior, fully restored as God, appears in the midst of His disciples. Remember, the doors are not only closed but locked.
The first words out of our Saviors mouth to them and to us was and is “Peace be unto you”. As you will recall this word translated as peace means to be joined with God, to be one with God, to have the prosperity of God, the tranquility of God, the wholeness of God (spirit, soul, body), and the rest (provision spiritual and natural) of God. We are joined with God in focus and purpose. We are one with the Triune God just like Jesus with the Father. All that God, spiritual and physical, has rightful access to is ours as well. The peace that God is capable of experiencing is ours and we can experience by the exercise of faith. Once our spirit man was dead, separated from God, but now it is alive and we are whole spirit, soul, and body. All of God’s provision which is beyond human imagination is at our beck-n-call by faith, fueled of love, and led of the Holy Spirit. With these words and those of the next few verses these disciples entered a new and wonderful reality. Now let’s move forward just a tad.
John 20:20 (KJV)
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
These words “Peace be unto you” and the physical evidence of “his hands and his side” made the disciples glad. His appearance alone did not make them glad for it seems from an analysis of the language that they did not yet perceive with understanding. The Words He spoke also did not bring gladness. The thing that brought gladness was the physical (carnal) evidence. Remember, although they are moments from being born again, they are not at that very moment and therefore cannot see spiritually. Only when they saw physical evidence, “then” they were glad.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
