WOE TO THOSE WHO FOLLOW STRONG DRINK

Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to our study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the good news. God is so good to give us His Word that we do not have to grope about in spiritual darkness. As we have been studying along, we should have no question about how sin hurts God, irritates God, and the awful consequences of sin. Sin separates one from God whether saint or not. When we saints sin we are not in fellowship although we retain relationship unless or until we blaspheme the Holy Spirit. The benefits of righteousness so far outweigh the consequences of unrighteousness that one would think no one would sin but sin abounds. The demons are very astute at deception and the pull of the flesh is great. We have the Holy Spirit and if we will follow after Him and the Word of God, we can be free of sin. No, we don’t have to sin! That is a lie of the devils. A part of our study today has to do with drinking alcoholic beverages. The featured picture today illustrates a man who has apparently passed out from heavy alcohol intake. Now, let’s read our primary Bible text aloud, yes, out loud. Faith only comes by hearing not by looking or silently reading. We also know it is impossible to please God without faith. Let’s read.
Isaiah 5:8-11 (KJV)
8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
9 In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.
10 Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah.
11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
These Scriptures are difficult to get a handle on but it appears the Lord is pointing out how the wicked rich are crowding out everyone else. This is the forming of a monopoly and the associated inflation due to shortages. This is the absence of love towards our neighbor. Verse eleven on the other hand is clearly admonishing us not to we are inflamed. To be inflamed to alcohol is to be addicted. The alcohol (reality not figurative) demon is very destruction and unfortunately controls large segments of the population. It seems that the world does not see any way to fellowship with others without the use of alcohol. That is a deception of the devils. Let’s look at this same passage in the Message Bible and perhaps throw a little additional light on what the Lord is looking to teach us.
Isaiah 5:8-11 (MSG)
8 Doom to you who buy up all the houses and grab all the land for yourselves— Evicting the old owners, posting NO TRESPASSING signs, Taking over the country, leaving everyone homeless and landless.
9 I overheard GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies say: “Those mighty houses will end up empty. Those extravagant estates will be deserted.
10 A ten-acre vineyard will produce a pint of wine, a fifty-pound sack of seed, a quart of grain.”
11 Doom to those who get up early and start drinking booze before breakfast, Who stay up all hours of the night drinking themselves into a stupor.
Verses eight, nine, and ten appears to be prohibiting monopolies. I just want to remind us all that we do in fact see Jesus, the personage of Jesus down through all of Scripture not just in the New Testament. In our text we find Him in verse nine described as “GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies”. Angels are soldiers in the armies of God, the armies of Heaven. We on the other hand are kings and priests in His Kingdom (Revelation 1:6). All of this is part of the dominance of wickedness in the land and especially among Gods’ people. It is sin brings down (a community, State, Region, and nation) and eventually spews or vomits out the inhabitants.
Leviticus 18:28 (KJV)
28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
We saw this in verses 8-10 of our primary text today. I will speak more tomorrow, Lord willing, about alcohol, specifically Christians and alcohol.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, doubt it not, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
