THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Greetings precious children of God and welcome back to our study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. Before we move forward, please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the gospel (good news), the Truth. Thank you for sharing, you have a very important role in this Ministry. The featured picture today is of a scale with books on each side. Whose reports are we believing? Adam and Eve received another word and stopped believing the Word of the Lord. Are we proving every word as to if it is the Lord or not? Are we discarding the lie and keeping and carefully guarding the Truth? Do we have a true “fear of the Lord”?
Before we (you, me, and the Holy Spirit) move into the text for today, I will talk again today for a moment about love. The word ‘love’ is very much abused in the English language. We profess love for God and in the same breath may say we love our dog and ice cream. We assume it is understood what we mean, but is it? Does it lessen or cheapen the word, such an important word, when we use it in multiple contexts? Would it be better to say we love God and people, and that we enjoy ice cream or our dog? Do we have the same love for our dog as God? I sure hope not!! The love I am talking about is the God kind of love (agapē/ agapaō), the love that only God and those who are born again are capable of expressing. A spiritually dead man can’t express the fruits of the spirit. Love is one of the fruit of the born-again spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
You have heard me define this love many times from Scripture as obedience (to Scripture), selflessness (motivations), and abiding by Blood Covenant. Many times, what is called love is really the expression of another fruit of the spirit like gentleness or goodness. One further comment about this love. In many ways, boiled down to one word it would be ‘selflessness’. Love expressed is all about you and not about me. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 11:1-3 (KJV)
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
Today we come to the seventh of the Spirits of the Lord. Apparently, it is not possible for a natural man to have a full understanding of or express properly “the fear of the Lord”. The Holy Spirit, our Helper and our main Teacher must empower us and instruct us. The main definition of the word ‘fear’ here is to reverence and, in that context, obey. See the Amplified Bible.
Isaiah 11:2 (AMP)
2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord—
Have we (you and me) received fully this function of the Holy Spirit in our lives? This reverence compels us to obey. To obey is to love (agapē/ agapaō). In Christ Jesus, and in the creation (Adam before the fall), we were created just a little lower than Elohim (Triune God).
Psalm 8:5 (HCSB)
5 You made him little less than God and crowned him with glory and honor.
Jesus walked fully in the fear of the Lord, we see it in His obedience. The outcome was that the Father was pleased with Jesus.
John 8:29 (KJV)
29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
Do we always obey and please the Father? We know that Jesus always operated in faith for it takes faith to please God. Are we always walking, living by faith, pleasing God?
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Let us walk in the fear of the Lord always obeying by faith and pleasing our Heavenly Father, or Lord Jesus, and working with the Holy Spirit our Helper and Teacher.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
