FROM THE PROPHETS CHAMBER – WEEK NINETY-TWO
HERDMEN – PART TWO

Greetings precious brothers and sisters in Christ and welcome back to From the Prophets Chamber. Once again, this week I will be talking about “Pastors” or “Herdmen”. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you increasing our reach with the good news, the Truth. Thank you for sharing, you are a blessing to us, but more importantly to the Kingdom of God. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Jeremiah 3:15 (KJV)
15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
As you will recall the word translated as “pastors” in our text is a verb meaning to feed, to tend; to be a shepherd. It means in general to care for, to protect, to graze, to feed flocks and herds according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. We can see that the application of this Hebrew word could be broader than the five-fold Ministry office of Pastor. However, reading this definition one would be hard pressed to miss the fact that God is talking about the one who primarily tends, looks after the needs of the sheep (herd). I believe it is important that each one of us believe, know, that our pastor is given of God (not self-appointed) specifically for us and that he/she think like God towards the congregation. We must believe that they will see to it that our feed (spiritual) not only imparts knowledge but that they will labor to cause us to understand. With understanding comes doing. This is what is absent (translating the words of Scripture into doing) to a great extent in much of the body of Christ. Moving forward, what about the word “heart” in our Jeremiah 3:15 text?
Jeremiah 3:15 (KJV)
15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
This word ‘heart’ is the seat of our mind, will, emotions, and intellect, what many would refer to as the soul. It is part of the spirit (immaterial) part of man. What is required for the Pastor to have a heart like Gods’, for us to have a heart like Gods’? They and we must make the thoughts of God, recorded in the Word of God, our thoughts. This process is called the renewing of the mind.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The renewing of the mind involves displacing (Law of Displacement) the thoughts, words, and ways of the world for the thoughts, words, and ways of God. This is not something that just kind of automatically happens because we show up at Church now and again and collect a little information. This happens only on purpose, being mindful of the thoughts, words, and ways of God and actually thinking His thoughts on purpose, speaking His Words on purpose, and doing it His way on purpose. Is the following verse true in our lives, could an independent witness of our lives testify this is true?
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
As I end for today, let’s look at the final phrase of our primary text, “shall feed you with knowledge and understanding”. This is the job of the Pastor, the Herdmen, the Shepherd. The feed part of this phrase has to do with not just providing the information (feed) but guiding us individually, the herd as a whole to reliable, high-quality sources of feed (Scriptural teaching). This brings us to the word ‘knowledge’. This is the Hebrew word dēʿāh which is a feminine noun meaning knowledge coming from the verb yād̠aʿ <H3045>, meaning to know according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Knowing by itself is better than not knowing I suppose but it must be understood and put to work in faith to function in our lives. This is a feminine word meaning it has great potential for increase, reproduction. Now, on to the word ‘understanding’. This has to do with having insight, skill concerning, and the exercise of judgment concerning a thing (Godly judgment). This judgment is a discerning between.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here and finish our discussion of this line of teaching next week.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
