THE THREE MINUTE WORD
Tuesday – August 29, 2023, Elul 12, 5783
Greetings dear children of God. You are all children of God, right? If not take care of that right now. When our lives end, and everyone’s does, your body goes into the ground but your spirit/soul goes to either Heaven or Hell. In case you are ambivalent about it, there is no comparison between the two, make Heaven your home today, this very moment.
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you confessed this Scripture for the first time, welcome to the family, and drop us a line with your testimony. Now, welcome back to our ongoing Bible study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Before proceeding forward please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The featured picture today is provided by Joe Getchell Jr a faithful man of God and a man with a wonderful eye for taking photographs. Thank you, Joe.
Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today in the wonderful Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 44:17-20 (KJV)
17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.
18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
Are any of us falling down to false gods, perhaps another person we see as our provider, perhaps the government, or some other god? We belittle those who worship the sun, the moon, a cow, or an image of say Zeus perhaps not considering that our own lives may be littered with idols. Again, let’s examine ourselves to see if we are putting anyone, anything, or any activity ahead of God at any time for any reason. As we read down through the preceding verses, we see the Lord pointing out the absolute absurdity of the whole process of idol making and worshiping. For perhaps a little more clarity let’s look at the NLT.
Isaiah 44:17-20 (NLT)
17 Then he takes what’s left and makes his god: a carved idol!
He falls down in front of it, worshiping and praying to it.
“Rescue me!” he says. “You are my god!”
18 Such stupidity and ignorance! Their eyes are closed, and they cannot see. Their minds are shut, and they cannot think.
19 The person who made the idol never stops to reflect,
“Why, it’s just a block of wood! I burned half of it for heat
and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat. How can the rest of it be a god? Should I bow down to worship a piece of wood?”
20 The poor, deluded fool feeds on ashes. He trusts something that can’t help him at all. Yet he cannot bring himself to ask,
“Is this idol that I’m holding in my hand a lie?”
The Lord just has a way with words, don’t you think. Are any of us submitting ourselves (worshipping) to any person, thing, system, or activity ahead of God, the Almighty God? I know I have asked this several times but I really want us, myself included, to examine our lives and determine the object of our worship. Is the Lord really numero uno?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
