DO WE HONOR GOD?
Friday – September 1, 2017

Welcome to the Friday edition of The Three Minute Word. We will continue and complete the discussion concerning honor today before we move on in this wonderful Book. First let us review our primary text and the context of the word honor.
Hebrews 3:1-6 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Yesterday I discussed how honor means to esteem, to value, and someone with whom we are willing to spend time. For those who spend no time with the Lord on a daily basis, minimize the time, do so in a rushed fashion, or push off your time with Him to what is convenient, say they honor God? All of these things I have mentioned means we are in idolatry, have another god. Do we honor the Word of God by spending time diligently studying to show ourselves approved? Do we allow, make it a point to change our thoughts, our words, and how we spend our time based on the Word of God? I have touched our time now I will touch our money. Do we tithe? If we do not tithe, we do not honor God. Failure to tithe is to steal from God. Do you suppose there is any upside to stealing from and not honoring God? Are we gathering more and more information about God but living exactly the same unchanged? Let’s take a few minutes, perhaps longer to meditate the following passage.
2 Timothy 3:1-9 (HCSB)
1 But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.
2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,
4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people!
6 For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,
7 always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
8 Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith.
9 But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
We are in the end of days or the last days so this is an admonition to us all. Should we be honest and repent or should we with a stiff neck and a hardening of heart say this has nothing to do with us and move on in our destructions? Look at verse nine above and the phrase “they will not make further progress”. Is that your goal or my goal? Let us ask ourselves again, are we honoring the builder of our house (the Church) which is God? Are we just paying lip service to God?
Matthew 15:7-9 (KJV)
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
If Jesus showed up at Church this Sunday, might we hear Him repeat the preceding verse to us? You betcha (I am not promoting betting), the Church is rife with the doctrines of men and hence the lack of power. God said He would confirm His Word, the gospel, with signs following not our words. Let us determine to honor God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Let’s move back to our primary text in Hebrews as we move forward.
Hebrews 3:1-6 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Recall that our focus here has been the exceeding superiority of the Son (Jesus) compared to angels, Prophets, and now Moses. Moses, his words spoken from God, were a shadow of the One to come, Christ Jesus. The laws (ceremonial, civil, and moral) and the images shown through Moses spoke of the coming Messiah. I had mentioned before that the Old Testament is Christ concealed and the New Testament is Christ revealed. Monday Lord willing I will move into Hebrews 3:6 and beyond.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
