SALVATION AND HONOR
Thursday – Aug 31, 2017

The Lord our God is so good. He is the only living God there is none beside Him. Hope you enjoy the featured picture of some of our cattle (Brangus) from years gone by. Now to our Bible Study in the Book of Hebrews. First let’s fix our attention on the primary text.
Hebrews 3:1-4 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
I have been focused in on when Jesus (The Word) was appointed by Jehovah (Yahweh) to be the One who would come redeeming man from sin. As we have studied many times before The Word did not come by Himself and did not accomplish all that was accomplished by Himself but with the empowerment of the Eternal Spirit (The Holy Spirit).
Hebrews 9:14 (KJV)
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Our primary Scripture text tells us that “Moses was faithful in all his house” (God’s house, the house of Israel), also we are told that Jesus “was faithful to him that appointed him”. The house we are talking about is the house of God, not a building or other structure, but a body of people we believed the Word of God. Take a look at the same verse in a different translation.
Hebrews 3:2 (HCSB)
2 He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God’s household.
As we look back at our primary text we find that Jesus is worthy of more honor than Moses because Jesus built the house and Moses served in the house (vs 5). The glory of God which is the goodness of God is always something that is easy for all to see. It is a manifestation of good facilitated by the Holy Spirit or is a manifestation of the presence of the Holy Spirit like the fire by night and the cloud by day that guided the Israelites in the wilderness. The ultimate glory or goodness of God was the manifestation of His Son in the earth to redeem us all.
Hebrews 3:3 (AMP)
3 Yet Jesus has been considered worthy of much greater honor and glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house [itself].
A house cannot exist without a builder. God is the builder of the house of Israel. Any Jew who would believe God starting with Abram was given shelter in this house. For that matter, anyone who was not Jewish by birth could also enter when they believed (exercised faith and love) God. They entered in the same way, Jew and Gentile alike, but it was offered to the Jew first, remember that salvation (for us today) came to us Gentiles by way of the Jew.
Romans 1:16 (KJV)
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Jesus is the builder of His house, and His house is the Church. The house of Israel remains, however one day soon the blindness will lift and they will receive the Messiah the same way we did by His Precious Blood and the words of their testimony. God is so good. These Scriptures are not just interesting facts but ideas to change us more and more into the image and likeness of God. As we move on and near the end of today’s teaching let’s take another look at our primary text.
Hebrews 3:1-6 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
I want to talk about honor (honour is an old English spelling) for a moment. A common interpretation of this word ‘honor’ is to highly esteem. However, as you probably already guessed or knew this word ‘honor’ is much more. Interestingly the Greek word for honor is transliterated to English as “timē” according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Time is the most valuable thing given to us. So, the word honor has to do with something or someone of great value, that is precious, and worthy of our time. Moses was due and received a certain amount of honor in his time and to this day but Jesus is due and to be accorded a far exceeding honor. We have to ask ourselves, do we honor Jesus, the Word of God, the house (building) of God, and the people of God? I will explore this further tomorrow, the Lord willing.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
