ERRORS OF THE HEART
Friday – September 8, 2017

Greetings and welcome back to our Bible Study of the Book of Hebrews. This wonderful Bible Study is presented by Dr. Wood and The Three Minute Word publication. God is so very good. Now let’s dive right back into our Bible Study reviewing and meditating upon our primary text.
Hebrews 3:6-12 (KJV)
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
To err in our heart is to have an error in our thinking, what might also be referred to as corrupted thinking. The devil and the world are seeking to corrupt or introduce error into our thinking 24/7. In this same verse (ten) we see the word grieved which can mean a sense of loss however synonyms from the Greek are to be indignant, to be very angry, and to be highly displeased according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. In the natural, how do we like it when our children will not believe us and the result of their error in thinking or corrupt thinking leads to problems for them. When this happens between parents and children in the natural a correction has to occur and they do not have our full favor. That is to say that things we might have given we are now unable to give. Our God with all of His heart wants to shower us with His goodness however we have restricted the flow by our thoughts, words, and actions.
Luke 12:31-32 (KJV)
31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Ephesians 3:20-21 (KJV)
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
In the Luke reference notice that seeking the Kingdom of God precedes the things being added. In the Ephesians reference notice that what He is able to do for us in this life only according to the power (dynamis) that is at work in us. Little power little blessings. Power with God is the result of spiritual maturity. Errors in thinking, corrupted thinking limits the power of God until we repent and correct the corrupted thinking (renew our mind). Repenting and correcting our thinking are two separate functions. Repentance without a change of heart (thinking) is only being sorry about being caught or a superficial response to the conviction of the Holy Spirit at best. God knows our heart (what is in our thinking) and until that is changed we do not move forward. Look at verse ten in the Message Translation.
Hebrews 3:10 (MSG)
10 And I was provoked, oh, so provoked! I said, “They’ll never keep their minds on God; they refuse to walk down my road.”
This is the same people that Jesus is talking about in the following verse.
Matthew 15:7-9 (KJV)
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
In the preceding Scripture we can see a key element of our Christian walk. Our thoughts have got to match our words otherwise our worship is in vain or useless (unproductive, no fruits). In Texas, one might say all hat and no cattle. There are those that talk the talk but their lives are absolutely devoid of commensurate evidence of the goodness of God. Jesus said, “ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16). Back to Hebrews 3:10 we see the Lord lamenting that His people “have not known my ways.”
Psalm 103:7 (KJV)
7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
In effect, the children of Israel saw the results of the time Moses spent with the Lord. Moses walked with the Lord, knew Him personally, didn’t just know about Him. The children of Israel knew about God but made no effort to know Him, to know His ways and make those ways their own whereas Moses did. When our ways are as Jesus’ ways we will get the results Jesus got. That will take time and a sea change of ideation. Before we leave Hebrews 3:10 to conclude the week I want to point out the Biblical Numerology for the verse. Hebrews is the nineteenth book of the New Testament and nineteen is the number of faith. Chapter three, three being divine completeness. Finally, and perhaps most important the number ten which is responsibility. The exercise of our responsibility to think like God and walk as He walks by faith brings divine completeness. My parting shot is the phrase “They shall not enter into my rest” in Hebrews 3:11. Eleven is the number of alignment and when we are not in alignment with God we cannot enter His rest. The rest of God is the provision of God, in the case of the Israelites this was the Promised Land. Our Promised Land is Heaven. This is serious.
Amos 3:3 (KJV)
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Let’s repent, change our thinking, know and do His ways.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
