PROMISE TO ABRAHAM – PART FIVE
Wednesday – November 22, 2017

Looks like a little courting going on at the deer feeder back in March 2013 on the ranch. According to audubon.org/turkey a male turkey is called a tom or a gobbler, a female turkey a hen, and a baby turkey a poult or chick. A young male turkey is called a jake and a young female is called a jenny. A group of wild turkeys is called a flock, a group of domesticated turkeys is commonly referred to as a rafter. Now that I have proper turkey etiquette out of the way I will move to our Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews and currently focused on God’s promise to Abraham and to us. First our primary Bible text.
Hebrews 6:12-15 (KJV)
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
When I left off yesterday we were at the very initiation of The Blood Covenant which would redeem us all and was concluded or finished on the Cross of Calvary some two-thousand years later.
John 19:30 (KJV)
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
The “It” is The Blood Covenant, at that moment all that was needed was done, the blood for mankind was spilled, the blood for God was spilled, it was now unbreakable and eternal. Don’t you find the Bible Numerology fascinating and illuminating for this verse? The Book of John is the fourth of the New Testament and among the things that the number four can mean are authority and power. Guess what Jesus was getting back for mankind at that very moment on the Cross, authority and power. Nineteen is the number of faith, Jesus did this by faith. The number thirty is the Blood of Christ! O what a story! Now, let me get back to how we got there. Remember Abram has asked the Lord GOD how he can know that all that is being said will come to pass. The Lord GOD responds with, well we will make a blood covenant. Apparently, Abram understood this and the immutability (unchangeable, changeless) of this type of covenant. Together we will examine the following Genesis text.
Genesis 15:9-18 (KJV)
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
I understand that this is a lengthy section of Scripture for a sound bit generation. We must not be lazy but get this in its entirety in our eyes (physical and spiritual) and ears (physical and spiritual). In addition, we must determine that we will receive every last bit of revelation available to us from the Lord. To initiate this covenant the LORD gave Abram commandment to sacrifice certain innocent animals, innocent blood was spilled. There were fowls of the air which tried to scuttle this sacrifice but Abram would not allow it to happen. These are no doubt a type and shadow of the Serpent who tried for some four thousand years to prevent the One who would take back that which was lost on the Day of Sin in the Garden of Eden. In Ephesians 2:2 the Apostle Paul refers to the Serpent, the devil, as the prince and power of the air. The blood of innocent animals shed that day was surrogate blood for man and for God. At that moment in time man had blood but God had no blood, He would need to come as a man for the covenant to be perfect and binding for eternity.
Notice starting in verse thirteen (rebellion and depravity) of our text that the Lord GOD tells Abram what is going to happen to those who come after Abram. He tells Abram they will be held captive for some four hundred years in another country before they come out a rich and healthy people. He assured Abram that he will have a long and satisfying natural life. The reason they cannot have the land right now is that “the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full”. You see God does not just yank things away from even the sinner. He gives a space of time for repentance. Verse fifteen shows the rest/provision of God for Abram/Abraham. Verse sixteen reflects the love of God. Now we come to verse seventeen (victory).
Genesis 15:17 (KJV)
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
By way of reminder, the LORD, the Lord GOD, and Abram are in the process of making a Blood Covenant, The Blood Covenant. I will pick up right here tomorrow the Lord willing.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (GW)
24 The LORD will bless you and watch over you.
25 The LORD will smile on you and be kind to you.
26 The LORD will look on you with favor and give you peace.’
