GOOD WORKS – PART FIVE
Wednesday – March 21, 2018, Nisan 5, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful and powerful faith building teachings from the Book of Hebrews. I am talking about verse twenty-four in our text and the phrase “good works”. As you will recall we are to provoke or encourage one another to love and good works. When a person is walking in love the good works will be a fruit of the love. The featured picture today is an artist’s illustration of Jesus healing the sick. Since we are to do as He did, each of us should put our picture there in place of Jesus. Now, let’s read our primary text aloud.
Hebrews 10:23-26 (KJV)
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Today I will look at another aspect of “good works” by focusing upon the good works that the Father did through Jesus and will do through us and more. Jesus as a man led of the Holy Spirit exercised authority in the earth and that authority was backed by the Holy Ghost and Power (just like Adam, just like us).
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Let’s each one of us put ourselves into the preceding passage if we are saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. For example, I can say that God has Anointed David Wood of Oakland, Maine with the Holy Ghost and with Power to go about doing good (good works) and healing all that are oppressed of the devil for God is with me. Put you name in there and recite it until it is the reality of your life. As in the preceding verse or as we studied yesterday good works can include natural or financial things we do or supernatural things as in casting out devils and healing the sick. The capacity to do the “natural or financial things” will likely have a supernatural underpinning. That is the accumulation of wealth that allows meaningful intervention in peoples lives to avert calamity.
Luke 7:20-22 (KJV)
20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
You may recall that John the Baptist had criticized the rulers and was in jail. He wavered in faith concerning the Messiah and sent his disciples to Jesus to affirm that Jesus was the One. This is the same John the Baptist that proclaimed from the river Jordan that Jesus was indeed the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world. Just a little aside here. John did not need to have his head removed, it was not the will of God, but was the consequence of offense and corrupted faith. Now, back to “good works”. The preceding text outlines some of the good works of Jesus in His earthly ministry. These are good works that we are to do as well, they are to be common place.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
As I conclude for today I want us to look back at Luke 7:22 and the phrase; “to the poor the gospel is preached”. Please don’t let the poverty message of the current Pharisaical Church blind us to the Truth of this phrase. Jesus preached the gospel to everyone, rich or poor and everyone in between. We are to preach the gospel to everyone as well. By definition, if you have not heard, and believed the good news you are poor in spirit. Lord willing, I well resume this teaching concerning “good works” tomorrow.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
