THE WORD DOES NOT DEPART FROM MY MOUTH

Greetings dear ones, we are honored to have you join this study of the 91st Psalm. It seems to me that many Christians have at least a passing acquaintance with this Psalm. Many invoked this Psalm during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is generally understood as a Psalm of protection from all evil. Is that true and is it automatic with reading or quoting the Psalm? Well, let’s launch into our initial text.
Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
As we review and meditate these first two verses, we find words that are reassuring. What one must ask themselves, however, is just what does this look like in our life. How do we dwell in the secret place of the most High? Does just saying He is our refuge and fortress cause it to be? We must be fully persuaded (faith) that what we cannot see does indeed exist and is more real than what we see. Let’s look at a few Scriptures. How is faith developed, maintained, and strengthened?
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
We must not just hear the Word of God in a passive way but with purpose over and over again until it is more real than the physical realm. Remember what God told Joshua.
Joshua 1:8-9 (KJV)
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Are we doing this? Are we having good success? If the answer is “no” than we know we are not doing this as commanded. Many times, we spend too much or all of our time looking (thinking and talking about) at the problem and not the promise of God.
2 Corinthians 4:18 (KJV)
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
We recently studied the life of Abraham, and we looked at what made all the difference in his life and subsequently ours as well. How do we see ourselves? In the following verse we see how God changed Abrams identity with a name change to Abraham. Do we see ourselves in Christ Jesus and Christ in us, do we see ourselves as sons of God? Do we call the realities of the spirit realm as if they are manifest in the physical?
Romans 4:17 (KJV)
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
As Abraham identified with his new name the promise came from the spirit realm to the physical. In this case Isaac the promised son and from Isaac The Promised Seed, Jesus.
Romans 4:20-22 (KJV)
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Are we staggering at the promises of God, declaring them in Church and with our Church friends but doubting in our thought life and even in our speech in unguarded or emotional moments?
TAKE HOME:
- Declare with all confidence, I dwell in the secret place of the most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
- Declare, I meditate the promises of God with all confidence fully persuaded, I possess them now and shall have them.
- Say, I am not looking at the problem, I am looking at the promise.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
