DIVERS AND STRANGE DOCTRINES
Thursday – August 9, 2018, Av 28, 5778

Greetings partners, and friends, welcome back to this Bible Study from the great Bible Book of Hebrews. The featured picture today is of the buffalo on the ranch in Texas. As you will recall they were named Adam and Eve. Now, back to our Bible Study, what a wonderful study yesterday concerning Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever! We now have and will forever have One who holds us secure in The Blood Covenant of which we are even now participants. God is so good to us. Have we always been good to God? God has always loved us, have we always loved God? You might have answered yes but let me remind you that a core component of love, love of God, is obedience to the Word of God. Now, let’s go ahead and read our primary Bible text aloud.
Hebrews 13:9-12 (KJV)
9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.
11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
As we look at verse nine today we will probably recall that this thing about strange or false doctrines is not new and neither is the discussion about meats (food). Discussions about foods in the early Church was a major issue given the commands God had given to the Children of Israel in the wilderness. It is clear however as we move into the New Testament that not only are all foods clean and can be eaten but all people can be clean as well. If you take the time to read down through the fifteenth chapter of Acts you will see some of this wrangling in that first century Church. The point of our verse is that salvation is by Grace and not by abiding by certain dietary restrictions. Those who abided by the Sacrificial Laws of Moses after the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and before the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D. have no part with us the Church. The only way to the Father from the moment He uttered those words: “it is finished” to this day and forever is the Blood of Jesus, making Him Lord, and believing the Father raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10, Hebrews 10:19).
In the time of old when an animal was sacrificed for the sins of the people and the blood applied to the mercy seat in the Most Holy Place the carcass of the animal was destroyed without the gate. Jesus Christ was sacrificed outside the gates of Jerusalem and He Himself took that most precious Blood to the Mercy Seat of Heaven where it testifies to this day. Just as the people applied the blood of lambs to the doorposts, and Moses sprinkled the people with blood, so Jesus has sprinkled us with His own precious Blood.
Hebrews 12:22-24 (KJV)
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Just as the destroyer had to pass over the homes where the blood of those innocent lambs was applied and there was no leaven (sin) so must he pass over us. Let us speak the Blood of Jesus over ourselves, our family, and all that is ours daily and ask the Lord to reveal any unconfessed sin that may have crept in of which we are unaware. The instant we become aware of sin we must confess it to the Lord and He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin. In this way we keep the destroyer far from our door. As our text proclaims we are sanctified, made pure, we are unleavened, by the most precious Blood of Jesus. Isn’t this wonderful?! As we finish for today let us look at verse fourteen in the King James Version and The Living Bible.
Hebrews 13:14 (KJV)
14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
Hebrews 13:14 (TLB)
14 For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven.
This is not our home, Heaven is our home, our home base, we are on assignment as Ambassadors from Heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV)
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
We all want to go home, I am speaking of Heaven, however just like on a natural job we must not go home until our assignment is finished. Our focus is the assignment given us of God. However, as we carry out that assignment we have full knowledge that Heaven is our home and going there will be as natural one of these days as going home after work in the earth.
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Ephesians 1:16-18 (KJV)
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
