HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART THIRTY
Sunday – September 30, 2018, Tishrei 21, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building study of Health, Healing, and Miracles based on the Ministry of Jesus. Today we will review a miracle that is no doubt familiar to many of you reading this teaching which is of the woman with a spirit of infirmity. Spirits of infirmity are common in the earth today. Now let’s go ahead and put our primary text in our eyes, our mouth, and our ears determined to build our faith and be changed by this Scripture.
Luke 13:10-17 (KJV)
10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
A spirit of infirmity is not a holy angel but a fallen angel otherwise known as an evil spirit, unclean spirit, or demon. The master of all demons is Satan and Jesus places the blame squarely on him. Just as all assignments to us flow from our Master, Christ Jesus, in the darkness, the evil realm all assignments to demons and the peoples they control (manipulate) flow from Satan. Holy angels are at work in our lives as well just as unholy angels (demons) are at work to influence and deceive us and to manipulate the heathen. I want to bring a couple of things to our attention. First Jesus referred to this infirmity as hers (thine) and then He refers to it as a bondage brought by Satan. The point I am getting at is that this woman had taken possession of this infirmity, it was hers. It became hers by the thoughts of her mind and the words of her mouth. Just as in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve the deceiver came and convinced her to confess things, receive things, contrary to Scripture and they were manifest in their lives and unfortunately all of humanity to follow. Just as an evil spirit can convince us to confess and manifest sickness even to death so can the Holy Spirit and Holy Angels speak things to us (Scripture) that if we will follow their lead and repeat them we will manifest good, even extraordinary health.
At the word of Christ Jesus as a man in the earth Holy Spirit and perhaps angels were loosed to separate that evil spirit of infirmity from this woman and instantly Holy Spirit (Anointing) brought about a correction of the woman’s infirmity. Jesus called the woman to Him and that step of faith on her part activated the Anointing in and on Jesus and the work of God was done for the glory of God. Again, we see the laying on of hands, the hands are a symbol of power, in this case the Power of God flowing through His (Jesus’) hands. Are we spending the time necessary with our Father, in the Word, building faith and concomitant with it the Anointing available for signs and wonders? The Anointing does not abide with unbelief. It is not always necessary to lay hands on a person, we see persons in Scripture healed by the spoken word, touching the garment of Jesus, cloths from Paul, or being in proximity to Peter. The Father was leading Jesus in all these things by the Holy Spirit and He is doing exactly the same for us today. Are we listening and obeying? Jesus did not have any prayer or ministry failures for He only did what the Father led Him to do. We commonly today do things according to tradition and therefore prayer and ministry failure are rampant. We also may have the attitude that it can’t hurt, I’ll lay hands on them and see what happens, and generally nothing happens. Or, perhaps we have not taken the time with our Heavenly Father and the Word of God so that we don’t have unwavering faith. There is only one way for us to have the same faith that Jesus walked in and that is to do what Jesus did which was to be immersed in the Word and conversation with the Father.
Notice that this woman was in the Synagogue on the Sabbath and she was a daughter of Abraham meaning she was a Jew. Today we might say in Church “ought not this daughter of our Heavenly Father in Christ Jesus whom Satan has bound be loosed?” As was common with Jesus the ruling Religious Leaders criticized Jesus, in this case because He healed on the Sabbath. This criticism by Church leaders of the obedient doing the work of God goes on to this day. Dear ones listen to that small quiet and sweet voice of Holy Spirit, do exactly what He says, and you will further the Kingdom, drive devils from peoples bringing them from bondage into freedom all for the glory of God.
