THE SON CAN DO NOTHING OF HIMSELF
Tuesday – November 20, 2018, Kislev 12, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderfully enlightening Bible Study of the Book of John. I know that this is a very busy week especially for those of you in America for it is Thanksgiving week, however, I strongly urge you all not to neglect the Word of God, especially your time talking to and hearing from the Lord. Our victory is not in the compliments about a favorite food but in our thanksgiving and obedience to God (the Word). The featured picture is of a hazy fall day looking down some railroad tracks not far from where I grew up here in Maine. Now let’s dive right back into our Bible Study first by reading our primary text aloud.
John 5:19-23 (KJV)
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
As you will recall we are focused on verse nineteen. You might even want to go back and review yesterdays teaching to see the context and underpinning the Lord has provided for this study, for our understanding. Jesus is telling the crowd assembled that the works they are witnessing are not His doing but the doing of the Father (through the Holy Spirit). He did not of Himself, for example, chose to heal the man with an infirmity thirty-eight years but was directed of the Father. Let’s think about what Jesus is saying with the phrase “seeth the Father do”. Is He talking about literally seeing the Father do something or is He talking about a certain thing being consistent with the will of the Father, which of course would align with the Word of God. As we meditate on this let’s review a verse we seen before.
John 3:34 (KJV)
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
Here we are told that when a person (Jesus, and you or me) is sent of God (not themselves) and they speak the words of God, the result is the flow of the Holy Spirit and Power without limit. Why did Jesus speak to this one man at the pool on this Sabbath day? There were lots of people around this pool but we have no record that Jesus healed any of them, only the man with an infirmity thirty-eight years. Faith was present in this man for healing, the Father knew this, revealed it to Jesus giving Jesus the words to say, and the Anointing on Jesus was ignited by the faith of the man and wholeness was manifested in the man (Grace and Glory of God). This is not a random willy nilly process. Some say; “you just never know what God is going to do”. That is a lie from the evil ones! Faith was not present for healing in any of the others around the pool otherwise we would have seen something like “and Jesus healed them all”. Let’s go to another Scripture to bring increased clarity.
John 8:37-39 (KJV)
37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
The folks Jesus is talking to at the pool (Jews) are of the natural seed of Abraham but not the spiritual as are you and I who are born again and grafted into the root which is God. Just to think a little more about this term of seeing something like above “I have seen with my Father”. Have you ever said something like this, “I just don’t see them doing that”? We mean it is inconsistent with the character of the person being referenced and so it is here. We don’t see any prayer failures in the ministry of Jesus. Jesus was attentive to the Holy Spirit (His Father) and did not pray for things He is not led to by the Father. He did not pray for people who were without faith. Prayer failures are a dime a dozen in the modern Church due to the contamination of the traditions of men, and lack of leadership by the Holy Spirit. It is the will of God for all people to be healed, to be well, however, He cannot heal someone absent them having faith for the healing. Neither can we make them get healed nor will God. It is the responsibility of each of us to develop faith and faith comes only by hearing the Word of God. Perhaps we will finish up with this verse tomorrow the Lord willing.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
