IN THE NAME
Wednesday – December 19, 2018, Tevet 11, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to this very powerful and faith building Bible Study of the Book of John. The featured picture today is an artist rendition of Jerusalem in ancient days and we can see the tower of David displayed prominently. If you are receiving these teachings on Facebook please hit the “like” and “share” buttons. Now let’s move to our primary text and read it aloud so that it is in our eyes, our mouth, and our ears. Faith only comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God.
John 5:39-44 (KJV)
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
Just as you and I come in the name of Jesus, Jesus came in the name of the Father. By extension so do we for we are in Christ Jesus, and Christ Jesus is in the Father and we are all one!
John 17:11-12 (KJV)
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
We most often think of the name of Jesus as a key or signature that opens doors or brings the will of God from the unseen to the seen. It is the authority, or Power of attorney, which we exercise with the name of Jesus. When we are born again it is like our last name is hyphenated. So, in my case it would be David Wood-Jesus. When a woman marries a man, sometimes they take the man’s last name and sometimes they take a hyphenated name. In either case they can operate in the authority of that name. Perhaps you have worked for a company and when you did business on behalf of the company you did it with the full force of that company name. If we go in without that name we probably don’t get beyond the lobby, with that name we are given a place and things are accomplished in that name and by that name. When we come in another’s name we also walk in the protections of that name. The resources which that name commands are at the ready to accomplish all that we speak and provide all the protections that are required. In that context consider the following verse.
Proverbs 18:10 (KJV)
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
In the following verse we find the phrase “by the name”.
Acts 4:29-30 (KJV)
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
These disciples and Apostles, came not in their own names or the authority of their own names but in the name of Jesus. They spoke the Word of God, the Word is God, the Word can accomplish whatever God can accomplish for they are One. When they spoke the Word they fully expected (faith) the Lord to stretch forth His Hand (Holy Spirit) for healing, signs, and wonders. Those healings, signs, and wonders were to be done “by the name of they holy child Jesus”. So, we see the essential combination of the Word and the Name. Remember we see over and over in the ministry of Jesus where the people came to hear and were healed. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Faith is an indispensable ingredient to receiving anything from God starting with salvation. Faith is what ignites the Anointing. The target or hope must in the mind of the speaking person must be the only possible reality, the only possible outcome. On this topic of the name let’s end by reading and recalling the following verse.
Mark 16:20 (KJV)
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
The power of God waits for His Words in our mouth to be spoken.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
