TO WHOM SHALL WE GO?
Tuesday – February 12, 2019, Adar A 7, 5779

Welcome back to this powerful faith calling Bible Study of the Book of John and greeting sons and daughters of God. The featured picture today is of the Methodist Church in the little town of Somerset Texas about 7 miles from where I lived in Texas. If you are reading this on Facebook take a moment and hit the “like” and “share” buttons. When you share with your friends or publicly you multiply the reach of the Word of God going out from this Ministry. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible Text and read it aloud getting it in our eyes, in our mouth, and in our ears. Remember, faith comes with hearing, and hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Once the faith comes will we receive it and act upon it or will we simply say how wonderful the Word of God is and what a great Bible Study we just read? Faith by itself is dead, faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26).
John 6:66-71 (KJV)
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
I left off this study yesterday with Jesus’ question to the disciples as to if they were also going to leave Him. At that moment Peter responds with the words that most Christians have heard and should be on our lips as well which are: “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” To whom do we go when we ignore the Word of God, who or what is our true god? When we turn from the Lord, from the Word of God, we are turning to another god, we are turning from the Words of eternal life. We are turning from a continuous existence on the plane of God, the kind of life God enjoys. This is ours right here in the earth in accordance with the Word, but we must walk it out by faith, in love, led and empowered of the Holy Spirit. All too often we hear things like “brother we just have to endure the hardness of life here and receive a reward over there”. That kind of thinking is absolutely hogwash, it is demonic. Here in this text Jesus does not really address or really even acknowledge Peter’s statement although it is uttered by revelation of the Father that day. Jesus responds to them by pointing out that He choose all of them including Judas Iscariot who would betray Him and was possessed of the devil. Jesus chooses us all, what do we choose? Now I will move our study into the seventh chapter.
John 7:1-5 (KJV)
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
As we move into this new chapter, we find that the Jews are still trying to kill Jesus. In the end we find out that the reason is envy. He was doing things they were not and could not do and He was a threat to their following.
Matthew 27:17-19 (KJV)
17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
Believe me the Pharisees, Scribes, and doctors of the Law of our day will deliver you and me up as well for the same reason, envy. Looking back at our text in the seventh chapter of John we find his brethren (family) being snarky (sharply critical, cutting, or snide) to Him. Sound familiar? I don’t suppose anyone you thought was close or supportive has done that to you? Remember, Jesus said that a Prophet is only without honor in his own hometown among his brethren (or sisters)(home Church) (Matthew 13:57).
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
