THE PROPHETIC VOICE – PART SEVEN
LAW OF ASSOCIATIONS – PART TWO

Greetings children, sons and daughters of the Most High God and welcome back to this empowering Bible Study concerning Prophets. Today I will continue with the theme of the Law of Associations, particularly with a Prophet. All of us must always avoid thinking little (despise) of Prophecy for it is a vital part of what moves the Hand of God. As we think about the honoring of prophecy and Prophets in our Churches let me ask a question. Do each of our Churches have a Prophet, is the Prophet allowed to speak as moved of God, and is the message recorded and made available to all? I will now continue with talking about the Law of Associations. Last week we reviewed the benefit the Shunammite woman received because she honored the Prophet in a real and substantial way (not just lip service). Now, let’s again review the words of Jesus.
Matthew 10:41 (KJV)
41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
Today I will talk briefly about the association between Lot and Abram (later his name is changed by God to Abraham). Lot is a nephew of Abram and not what you would call a strong Christian. To put things in perspective neither was Abraham until he was ninety-nine. You may recall that God had instructed Abram to go into Canaan (Genesis 11:31) but he stopped with his father and Lot in Haran. Upon the death of his father, Terah, Abram departed with Lot for Canaan (what eventually would be called the Promised Land and now the Holy Land). God told Abram to go but never told him to take Lot. Sometimes we drag people along with us that are not supposed to be with us (not called of God) and become a hindrance in the plan of God like Lot became in Abram’s life. Some time after they arrived in Canaan there was a famine and Abram with Lot went into Egypt for a season. When they returned to the land of Canaan, they were both very rich, Abram more so than Lot for Abram was the one called. Lot was rich by association.
Genesis 13:1-8 (KJV)
1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;
4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
Abram and Lot separated and you will recall Lot went towards Sodom and Gomorrah and came to live in Sodom. Now, one may be saying, I thought we were talking about associations with Prophets. Yes, I am talking about that but this is a general spiritual law. Abram (Abraham) was a Prophet.
Genesis 20:6-7 (KJV)
6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
Like all Prophets, the designation or ordination comes first from God and is secondarily recognized by men (people) primarily other Prophets and Teachers (more on that later). Later when the cry of sin (homosexuality) arose and God was about to destroy Sodom because of the association with Abraham those of Lot’s family who would were spared, albeit they left reluctantly.
Genesis 19:15-16 (KJV)
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
Some of Lot’s family made fun of him and choose to stay behind, his wife looked back and was consumed in the destruction, and even Lot lingered with the two daughters. By the agency of the two angels sent to destroy Sodom and rescue Lot and his family the angels physically removed them from the city. God will do that for each of us as we honor the Prophet in our life. As in this account of Abraham and Lot even if we don’t fully honor the Prophet God will give us favor for the sake of the Prophet. Let us pick our associations very carefully and honor the Prophets God has sent into our lives.
