TRADITIONS, LIES, and TRUTH – PART THIRTY-SEVEN
HINDERING GOD – PART ONE

Greetings dear partners and friends of this Ministry and The Three Minute Word blog. Our God is so very good. Welcome to this ongoing Saturday series titled “Traditions, Lies, and Truth” where I seek to illuminate what will bring and maintain the curse in our lives and what will bring and maintain the blessing in our lives. Come on, you can do it, this is not hard nor time consuming and you will be increasing the reach of the good news. The topic for this series today and another four weeks is the question; is it possible to hinder God. Another question might be as to whether it is possible to stop the plan of God. Now let’s get into our topic.
Can a man or woman hinder God? The short answer is, yes. How is it even possible to hinder, delay, or stop the plan of God given that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent? God can be hindered by man because before the foundation of the world in the counsels of God they chose to give man dominion (primary authority) in the earth, and to give man free-will. Many if not most teach that God can do whatever He wants whenever He chooses. That line of thinking is “another gospel”, “a doctrine of devils”, and separates us from God. Let me be clear here God has the power to do anything, but not the authority which has been given to man. God will not violate His own laws. This has got to be heartbreaking for God as He watches us make really rotten and destructive decisions. The Word and the Holy Spirit not to mention the Holy angels stand ready to lead us into the abundant life Christ Jesus died to give and we spurn them and go our own way saint and sinner alike. Before I continue further let me point out something very germane to this discussion. There is an overarching plan of God that is playing out and is delayed at times but will play out just as God has said. This is things like the coming of the Messiah, the Catching Away, the Second Coming, the Millennial Reign, and the New Heaven and New Earth. This study is focused on people groups and individuals where the plan of God can be hindered or thwarted altogether by our choice not His. For example, it is not the will of God that any go to Hell yet they are going by the billions by choice.
We hinder God mainly by our disobedience. Scripture (Romans 1:20) tells us that we all are without excuse. When we fail to increase our knowledge of the Truth and receive of the Spirit of understanding and Wisdom, we hinder God, perhaps even scuttle His wonderful plan for our lives altogether. Just as a natural employer cannot use a person beyond their level of knowledge and training neither can God. God is hindered because the pool of people who can respond to Him is limited. The process of reducing ignorance (which is studying and incorporating the Word of God into our thoughts, words, and actions displacing the trash of the world) is part of the maturing process. The failure to increase our knowledge of Him, of the Truth, which reduces ignorance is a choice on our part.
The failure to move forward in the Kingdom of God is insubordination which is sin. Perhaps we were not taught the necessity of study, or the value of the Word of God above all other words. Have we been lazy? Have we swallowed hook line and sinker everything we have heard thinking it to be Truth when it is instead tradition or the doctrine of devils? Remember, always test the Word, prove what you believe about the Word by the Word. In other words, be a good Berean (Acts 17:11). We may remain ignorant by paying no attention to the Word sown. Secondly, we may choose not to incorporate the Word into our life, what James 1:21 calls engrafting the Word. Ignorance can also be the result of allowing other things (affliction, persecution, cares of the world, deceitfulness of riches, and lust of other things [Mark 4]) keep us from the Word, and yes, it is a choice. Failing to increase our knowledge of Truth and make it functional in our lives is sin. Sin separates us from God. Think for a moment about a job in the natural world. The company has a Policy and Procedure Manual, people to provide training and guidance, and every tool necessary to do the job with excellence. It is no different in the Kingdom of God. Will we choose to read and then do what is in the Policy and Procedure Manual (Bible), will we pay attention to the people God sends to train us, and will we utilize the more than adequate tools God has provided?
Our choice to not progress in our knowledge of Him leaves us in unbelief for faith (or believing) comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). The results of our disobedience may result in people going to hell, people not being healed in the name of Jesus, people not being made free, or our life not impacting other persons in our sphere of influence in a positive, Godly way. God is hindered by our disobedience, which is sin. He may be able to raise up someone else, maybe not. You may be the only one in that area to do that particular job. Our behavior, our witness may be such that it poisons the well so to speak in our neighborhood, job, and circle of friends.
