GOD IS A GOOD GOD GIVING ONLY GOOD GIFTS

Greetings and welcome back to this revealing study of the Bible Book of James. We desire to not only gather information about the Kingdom but acquire revelation that is actionable in our lives. Jesus didn’t come, go to the Cross, go into Hell so we could have fire insurance and live our lives like the world. He came to bring many sons to glory which means we are to manifest the goodness of God for all to see. He came so that the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things could be seen all over the earth. It is not the will of God that any should perish. Our lives are to show people a taste of Heaven upon the earth. Let’s dive into our text for today.
James 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
It seems to me that verse sixteen could apply to what came before or after or both. First don’t be confused about temptation. We ourselves are at the very center of all temptation and we of our own free will decide our path forward. I have just taught for several days about sacred cows and believe me they are everywhere. No wonder the Church is powerless. There is a horrible sacred cow propagated by the Church which is that God is in control of everything, the good things in our lives, the bad things, and the ugly things. All of it is by His hand, it is all His will, He is causing it to happen, we don’t understand it, but He is working all things out for our good in the end. What poppycock!
Only good gifts, good things, come from God, anything bad is not of God, it is of sin, it is of the curse. Remember my series on the “Curse Causeless”?
Proverbs 26:2 (KJV)
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
There is always a cause for the curse to be in our lives. The cause is never God. The curse enters by disobedience to the Word, the ways of God, whether that disobedience be knowingly or in ignorance. The blessing enters by obedience. This is really simple. Our God does not give good gifts one day and bad another (variableness). There is nothing hidden, no shadowy things with our God. There is no hidden agenda or thing in the presence the ways of our God, the Father of lights. Who are the lights He is the Father of? You and me dear ones! God is light and we are made in His image and likeness being of like kind. We are lights.
Isaiah 60:1-3 (KJV)
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
Does this describe you, me, if not why not? Let’s look at another Scripture as we close the week in the Book of James.
Revelation 21:23 (KJV)
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
We are in the image of Jesus. As He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). The word lighten in reference to the Father is a light that encompasses everything and allows for no shadows. The word light in reference to the Lamb means to be a portable lamp. Just as Jesus is a portable lamp so are we now and forever.
TAKE HOME:
- We are at the center of every temptation.
- Only good gifts come from our Heavenly Father.
- We are portable lamps just like Jesus.
Lord willing, I will resume right here Monday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
