BE THE HEAD AND BE ABOVE

Greetings dear saints, sons of God and all others joining. Welcome to this enlightening and inspiring study of the Seven Mountains also referred to as pillars or gates. Of the Seven Mountains, thus far we have discussed the Mountain of Religion, Media, and Education. Today I will focus on the “Business Mountain”. It seems to me that many compartmentalize their lives. That is to say they see their occupation, hobbies and even family life as somehow separate from their religious life. Is this what the Bible teaches? Of course not! It is all one life, and we do all as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23). Let’s review our primary anchor Scriptures then plunge into the specifics for today.
Proverbs 9:1 (KJV)
1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
Here we see the reference to the seven pillars that support society. These were established by Wisdom, which is also another name for Jesus, the Word. Did you notice the female gender telling us that wisdom, this house, the pillars have the capacity to increase and effect each other. Next, we the people of God are to be the leaven and the gatekeepers of each pillar, mountain not the heathen as we now see.
Deuteronomy 28:13 (KJV)
13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
Near the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry, He gave instructions that echo down through the centuries to us today.
Luke 19:13 (KJV)
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
The Greek word translated to English as “occupy” means to be doing, to be busy, to be occupied, and to do business according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. What are we to busy ourselves with? It is much the same no matter the pillar in which you are called, gifted, and talented to serve. Same as Jesus but it will look a little different in the different roles but the same Anointing and the same benefits to the people to which we minister.
Luke 4:18-19 (KJV)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
In addition, we have a mandate to be about the work of the Isaiah passage below. As we meditate the Luke 4 passage and the following passage imagine what this looks like for the businessman, the politician, or the educator.
Isaiah 61:4-6 (KJV)
4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.
The sons of God every mountain are in one way or another bringing Luke 4 and Isaiah 61 to saint and sinner alike. In the following verse Jesus pointed out that the children of the world were wiser in business than those of the light. Why? Traditions of men, doctrines of demons, and sacred cows.
Luke 16:8 (KJV)
8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
Jesus is not suggesting we become unjust but that we up our game. There is much in Scripture about commerce (free enterprise is a God idea, socialism is a devil idea) let’s review a couple and end for today.
Leviticus 19:35-37 (KJV)
35 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.
36 Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
37 Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.
Leviticus 25:14 (KJV)
14 And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbour, or buyest ought of thy neighbour’s hand, ye shall not oppress one another:
Leviticus 25:17-18 (KJV)
17 Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am the LORD your God.
18 Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.
Just commerce is a win, win for seller and buyer alike and the payoff in the Kingdom for the child of God is to dwell in the land in safety.
TAKE HOME:
- It is the will of God that we be the head and not the tail and that we be above and not beneath in all the mountains.
- We are to be about the work of the Kingdom of God in whatever mountains we are called and graced for, it is not relegated to the Church. The Church equips spiritually for the work of the Kingdom.
- We are not to oppress saint or sinner in any way.
