I AM A PARTAKER OF GODS DIVINE NATURE

Greetings dear ones, we are honored to have you join this ongoing study of the 91st Psalm. It seems to me that many Christians have at least a passing acquaintance with this Psalm. Many invoked this Psalm during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is generally understood as a Psalm of protection from all evil. Is that true and is it automatic with reading or quoting the Psalm? Well, let’s launch into our initial text.
Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Remember we are talking about, from yesterday, what it looks like to actually be in the secret place, under the shadow of the Almighty. We see in verse two of our text that we have to speak but is that all there is to it and suddenly we are there? I hope you know the correct answer here. We must hear the Word over and over (Romans 10:17) building our faith in the Word. The Word in this case is Psalm 91, but it is the same with all of Gods promises. Then we are to meditate on that word night and day (Joshua 1:8). The Scripture does not say to meditate the Word then meditate the problem. The Scripture is to dominate and over time totally displace the problem in our thought life, our speech. We have to be careful to keep our eye on the promise (2 Cor 4:18), on what is not yet seen and not on what is seen. Then like God and like Father Abraham we consistently call those things which be not as though they are (Romans 4:17). The end result is that unbelief is pushed out, we become fully persuaded, and the promise is ours in this material world.
Doubt, unbelief, has no place in the secret place. Doubting the Word of God keeps us out of the secret place but so does believing other words, remember Adam and Eve. Remember giving place to the demons (Ephesians 4:27 and following) is not just raping, pillaging, and robbing banks but meditating (thoughts and words) things that are not of God. I will now continue in this vein of what it looks like to access the secret place, what is our part. We always have a part. It is our faith in His Words in our mouth that triggers the Power of God.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
We now see another facet of the process and that is we must study the Word of God. Study is how knowledge comes. We must have ears to hear and eyes to see. Notice the 2nd Peter text tells us that we already have all things for this life both physical and spiritual. So, what’s the holdup? Failure to study and implement the Truth in our lives for one. From verse three we have to ask ourselves if we are manifesting the goodness of God and His excellence. We have a divine nature by virtue of our making (Genesis 2:7) and the resurrection of our spirit man at salvation. The problem is that many are not partakers of divine nature. It’s like having an unlimited bank account but never going to get any money thinking it is for the hereafter. Oh, what wicked teachings. If all things are available to us in our total submission to God and we are partakers then there is no place for lust or covetousness. God is not against us having material things in unlimited abundance so long as He is first and we serve Him and our fellow man.
1 Timothy 6:17 (KJV)
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
The Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul is not against people being rich but He is against pride and making the riches their god. He goes on to say that we have been given richly “all things” to enjoy. What exactly is left out of all things? This would include the secret place of the Most High and the shadow of the Almighty.
TAKE HOME:
- “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust”.
- With knowledge and acting on that knowledge of Him, we access all things for life and godliness being partakers of the divine nature. There is nothing missing in Gods life and there is to be nothing missing in ours. There is much work to be done.
- God has given us all things to enjoy.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
