BELIEVE MOSES BELIEVE ME
Friday – December 21, 2018, Tevet 13, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study of the Book of John. Isn’t God just so wonderful to give us His Word that we can have light and not stumble in the darkness. Our stumbling generally occurs when we are not diligent and when we chose to follow the flesh rather than the Spirit. James tells us that we are drawn away of our own lusts, which includes the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. I call these the garden (Garden of Eden) variety temptations leading to sin. Additional major stumbling blocks leading to sin are unforgiveness and passing judgment (not judging but passing judgment or declaring an outcome).
James 1:13-16 (KJV)
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

John 5:43-47 (KJV)
43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
To recap some, Jesus is telling the people this day that He has come in the Father’s name, and they have even seen the manifestation of that Truth. Just minutes before this He healed the man with an infirmity thirty-eight years. They are not rejoicing in this wonderful event especially for the man healed but are in a tailspin about Jesus healing on the Sabbath, the man carrying his bed on the Sabbath, and if all that isn’t enough Jesus called God His Father. Whoa, major meltdown!
As we continue into verse forty-five, we see Jesus bring Moses into their thinking. Apparently, some of them were thinking that Jesus would accuse them before the Father but He tells them plainly there is already someone who speaks against you. That someone is one whom you say you revere, Moses, but apparently you don’t even believe him although you profess to believe him. Jesus tells them, Moses wrote about me. If you really believed Moses you would believe me for, he wrote about me. Let’s take a moment to remember what happened on the road to Emmaus?
Luke 24:25-27 (KJV)
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
You see here the risen Savior expounding the Scripture and again refers to Moses. Due to disobedience over and over there was a blindness that had come on the Jews and it was to the benefit of the Gentiles which are you an me precious saints unless you are a Jew. In that day and even to this day there were Jews who received Jesus as the Messiah. They choose to believe, to have faith and the Scripture was opened to them just as unto us. Let’s listen in on the Apostle Paul as we conclude this teaching, this week and this fifth chapter of John.
Romans 11:25-27 (KJV)
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Blindness came to the Jews in part due to disobedience and in part so that the Gentiles could be grafted into the same vine or root. There is a spiritual law which says that the more we reject the Truth the greater the darkness becomes in which we walk until we are in total darkness in that area. The converse is also true which says that the more light we receive the more light we will be given.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
