FAITH, WORKS, VICTORY – PART ONE
Monday – May 28, 2018, Sivan 14, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful insightful faith building study of the Book of Hebrews. God is so good to His people, however, there is one caveat and that is that we must do exactly what the Word prescribes not what we think. There is a way which seems right to a man but the end of it is destruction.
Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary text from the wonderful Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 11:30-32 (KJV)
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Today I am going to focus on the Bible account concerning Jericho and see what lessons we might glean from it too make our own lives more prosperous. As we discussed last week Moses was prevented by God from entering the Promised Land due to his disobedience in the wilderness. I strongly advise us all to review last Fridays teaching. We are to do all that the Lord says not some of what He says and some of how we feel. So, to put this Jericho account into context we find that Moses is dead and the people have mourned for him 30 days.
Deuteronomy 34:8 (KJV)
8 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.
We see this same pattern of thirty days with the death of Aaron the High Priest.
Numbers 20:29 (KJV)
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
This period of mourning for Moses and Aaron is for what we would call public figures. According to Judaism 101 the mourning for a parent, child, spouse, and sibling is basically 37 days after burial. The important point here is that weeping and mourning has parameters and to do otherwise takes us away from the plan of God. Neither the length or intensity of our weeping and mourning are a reflection of our love for the (physically) deceased person. Let’s take a look at what God had to say to Joshua when the 30 days were expired.
Joshua 1:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,
2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
So, there is a time for weeping and mourning and there is a time for moving on with life. Moving forward in the purposes of God for our lives.
Ecclesiastes 3:4 (KJV)
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
As we move into the account of Joshua and Jericho we find God repeating the Covenant He made with the Hebrews for land, a homeland.
Joshua 1:3-6 (KJV)
3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
If you do the study and research of the land Israel has occupied at any time, it was never all the land promised by God. They will however in the age to come. Likewise, the Church has never possessed all that was bought by Christ at Calvary and the Resurrection. I will pick up right here tomorrow, Lord willing. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
