HE CALLED THEM GODS
Tuesday – June 18, 2019, Sivan 15, 5779

Greetings precious saints of the only living God and welcome back to this fascinating and revealing Bible Study of the Book of John. If you are reading this on Facebook please take just a moment and hit the “share” and “like” buttons to expand the reach of the Truth, the reach of this Ministry. Thank you for doing that faithful brothers and sisters. The featured pictures this week will be of various outdoor scenes here in Maine and Friday will be a selfie of my wonderful bride and myself by the lake. Now let us turn our attention to the Bible Study and read the primary text aloud.
John 10:30-36 (KJV)
30 I and my Father are one.
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
I have to make a public warning before we start today’s lesson. The teaching today could be a little stout for the religious folks, if you are a Berean Christian you will be okay. As we move forward into verse thirty-four, Jesus asks the Jews a question. Worst of all He quotes Scripture to them (sarcasm), Scripture they should already know, so we can probably predict this will not help the situation. Next, let’s take a look at the Scripture to which Jesus is referring.
Psalm 82:1 (KJV)
1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
Psalm 82:6 (KJV)
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
I can hear the choking and spitting, the rattling of fire extinguishers and pitchforks from here. In Psalm 82:1 might we suppose that the Hebrew word for “God” is different from the Hebrew word for “gods”? Nope, same word! Oh no! Say it isn’t true. It is the Hebrew word transliterated to English as ʾelōhîm according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Notice that ʾelōhîm ends in ‘im’ indicating it is a pleural word. In the case of ‘God’, it is speaking of the Triune co-equal persons of God. In the case of ‘gods’ it is referring the children of God, those in Covenant with Him including you and me in Christ Jesus. Okay, is everyone settled down? In Psalm 82:1 we see that God, the Triune co-equal persons of God, is standing and judging the gods, who are the children of God. This would in some ways be similar to the parents standing among their children and judging them. Who is the “I” of Psalm 82:6? It is God, ʾelōhîm, speaking, and He (they) are speaking to the children of God (the Father). As this is unfolding today it seems that the Holy Spirit wants me to bring this whole Psalm into our consciousness for it applies big time to all of us today.
Psalm 82:1-8 (KJV)
1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
Let’s each of us meditate upon these words and ask God how these apply to the Church today and how they apply to us specifically.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
